I'm not sure if every Bunnings store is the same - but mine now has on clearance the Full Boar pedestal drill.
Current price is $224 - this is around $70 less than the smaller Ryobi bench-top drill press in store.
I think this is a remarkable buy - and considering a 750 watt motor.
Just a heads-up.
Cheers!
G'day mate,
Yeah that's a good buy and these days I usually look but don't buy because I've past that age point (78 next month) where I need to curtail new purchases or upgrades. Having said that I recently purchased this Ozito Plunge Saw 😃
Tip: Wait for the missus to be somewhere else then transfer from vehicle to workshop 😎
Drill press bench.
Cheers
G'day Alan.
"Yeah that's a good buy"
Yes, I believe so. I don't know Bunning's clearance pricing procedure - but I suspect that price will get even lower if the stock does not sell.
I was there the other day and none were sold since I made the opening post above - but if you continue to wait, with my luck a bus load of pedestal drill seekers will turn up and buy the lot in one go. 😁
Nice plunge saw Alan - any project thoughts?
"I need to curtail new purchases or upgrades."
I was feeling the same way until recently. Life is short and I would like to try/buy a few things and upgrade for the sheer fun and enjoyment of it.
Budget permitting.
The recent table-saw purchase has been absolutely fabulous. Did I 'really' need it? Probably not - but it has been a wonderful experience considering what I have been using.
Hello @Noyade.
"but I suspect that price will get even lower if the stock does not sell."
They're now down to $150.25c.
Well, the price didn't drop any lower.
So I bought the second last box - this was late last year.
I only set it up today. First issue - it wouldn't turn on. Then I discovered the belt lid has a latch mechanism that engages a switch so when the lid is closed - the circuit opens.
Problem is there is an anchoring bolt (M6) which I suspect was over-tightened in China and shattered the plastic mount on the switch box - so the box is floating free.
I tried double-sided tape to 'engage' the lid bracket.
And away she went!
Then I discovered - a much minor issue - the light doesn't work.
I thought I could try a household Edison LED light - but then discovered it's 12V DC - ?
With a mirror - I think I can just make out the transformer?
Where/how would you find a replacement?
Is there a way with a multi-meter I could check the problem is the bulb?
Howdy Noyade,
RE: Is there a way with a multi-meter I could check the problem is the bulb?
Yep...
Click Hobbyist Multimeter.
Buy that, you can get one regardless of where you live on this planet.
Sitting in front of the Desktop PC I just reached over and grabbed one of those off a shelf.
The all (more or less) come out of the same factory, the Click one heading for Bunnings and the Digitech to Jaycar.
Let me come back tomorrow and we'll run through how to test that LED globe with that Multimeter and when you have one you can do the same again for practice.
RE: Where/how would you find a replacement?
I searched Bunnings for a E27 G45 LED bulb but as expected could locate one.
The workshop team may find something or redirect you to Special Orders and if you can also get a spare.
Chat tomorrow...
"Chat tomorrow..."
Looking forward to it @AlanM52 !
I have a few multimeters mate - even one from when Dick Smith started. But I do like analogue - watching that arm swing back and forth...
I even have my 1978 General Electric calculator ready for the hard equations (does anybody buy calculators these days?).
I did try resistance and continuity - but thought that would only apply to incandescent bulbs?
Cheers for now.
PS - at the end of the day it's all rather moot. I believe the 'light' would be rather useless at 2 watts - and it's behind the chuck. But the problem solving is the fun part. 😁
You need a meter with a diode test function.
Set the multimeter dial to the diode symbol.
Touch the probes to the globe terminals. If it does not light, swap the probes to test polarity and if still no light globe is dead.
I think your best bet is Special Orders desk for replacement.
I use the LED work light spring clamp type with goose neck.
Diode?
I didn't see that coming.
I'll sift though a few other multimeters and get back to you.
Cheers.
OK - looks like Dick Smith is comparable to your machine.
"If it does not light,"
Not sure what you mean by this @AlanM52 . There is no light - no numerical change - just "1" visible.
This is for the Full Boar bulb.
And every other LED (240V) that I know to be working.
Right - forget the diodes.
I put the drill on its side.
Difficult, but thanks to Dick Smith - there is something like 12.5 V across the bulb socket.
Not the transformer.
Not the socket.
Not the switch.
Just the bulb.
Can I get a replacement bulb Bunnings? 😁
Sadly, I discovered a number of my multimeters have been destroyed by battery leakage.
Amazingly, Dick still works. 😁
OK... you can use a 9V battery and some insulated hookup wire.
If the globe is good it will light but... will be a bit dim due to the reduced voltage.
Hi @Noyade,
The only 12v globes I can find are these Narva 12V 21/5W BAY15d Incandescent Stop/Tail & Indicator Globe, which are not an edison screw, so they wouldn't work.
Your best bet would be to speak with the Special Orders team at your local store or reach out to the Spare Parts team for their assistance. I am sure they could source a replacement bulb from Full Boar.
Let me know if you need any assistance with this.
Jacob
RE: Can I get a replacement bulb Bunnings.
Give Bunnings Special Orders a call.
Actually - I went to the special orders desk and told them I was having no success with Full Boar/Ozito on the phone.
The guy's head slumped and told me he would have no better luck. And he was right - he rang them and got the same response - "we don't know" (spare parts availability).
So I went home and went online - https://www.ozito.com.au/services/contact/ - and put a request in with accompanying photos.
The funny thing is, they sent me a PDF exploded view of the drill's parts…
But it's not the same model.
No bulb or light switch. And their magnetic on/off switch is on the side - mine's on the front.
But I can make out No.47 - the micro-switch.
Should I persist - or just go away? 😁
Can you grab a photo of the plate or sticker showing the model number and potentially a serial number or date of production? I can have a look into it for you if you can let me know the specific details about your drill press.
Repair Fix: If needed here is overview of something I am putting together for you.
PART 1
Osram Fancy Round ES LED 470Lm DL 4.9W Frosted Light Globe
HPM MR16 LV Round Push Socket - 5 Pack (You may be able to work out a way to buy only one)
Osram MR16 12V 60D LED 760lm Warm White 7.5W Dimmable Downlight Globe
Concept sketch.
We need to somehow package that to a acceptable length.
I'll be back with PART 2. PS: Learning curve… for now I gave up trying to format that in my usual way.
I think it could be a transformer issue @AlanM52 - maximum output is 2W DC - ?
Thanks @JacobZ - and good luck….
(There are no multiple pages on threads anymore?)
I'll get in touch with the relevant people when they return to work tomorrow.
Bear with me, I'll see what I can do.
Also, multiple pages will kick in once a thread hits 30 comments. You can use the sort by feature to make the newest comments appear at the top if that helps.
Sorry mate - where do I find that "Sort by" box - choices?
It's at the top of the page just below the original post. It will sit just above the first reply.
G'day @Noyade,
Measure the voltage across the Edison screw base with a multimeter.
You want to test for 12V DC.
Turn Selector switch to the left set on 20.
Positive probe on the center contact.
Negative probe touching on the screw base.
Thanks @JacobZ
I'm having navigation issues.
@AlanM52 - I did that earlier in this thread - and got 12.5V
But I don't think the transformer has the power to drive any more than 2 Watts.
It might take some time to get used to the new setup, but I'm sure it will feel like second nature in no time.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send any of the team a PM so we can assist further.
Oops… that was mentioned.
LED MR11 2W Bulbs are available but I should ask workshop admin if it's OK to post a sample picture.
As with your AEG bench grinder, I've gotten on to our Spare Parts team who will be in touch shortly via email.
Again, if you don't hear from them in the next 48 hours, please let us know so we can follow up.
Ozito.
Thanks.
I got my answer from an earlier email inquiry.
