Repaired and refreshed external timber doors

Finished external doors

External doors were looking old and tired. Plus they were damaged round the bottom on one of the three doors. Instead of replacing I decided to repair. They came up great.

Materials

Belt sander sanding sheets 80 grit and 120 grit for the finish

Detail sander sanding sheets 80 grit

Outdoor Decking oil

Microfibre cloth for decking oil

Tools

Ozito 3 piece sander

Steps

Step 1

Sanded back doors with belt sander at 80 grit.

Sanded back detailed part of doors with detailed sander at 80 grit.

Sanded back doors for their finish using 120 grit sandpaper

Wiped down all excess dust from sanding and cleaned up dust in the surrounding area.

Layed down a protective sheet on the decking, stirred the can of decking oil well before using and used a microfiber cloth to coat the doors with oil.

I had a second microfibre cloth to wipe away any excess oil where it should not be.

Gave the recommended drying time of two hours ( did the second coat the following day to give the first coat a bit of time to really settle in)

Only needed two coats of the oil.

Cleaned up

Job done

Thanks heaps for the compliment. It really means a lot. Happy to share how I bought them back. I used the belt sander part of the ozito 3 part sander. It took persistence and a lot of what I term "buffing it out" It wasn't easy getting the door even with the rest of the door. The door was so badly chewed making the wood thicker than the rest on the sides so I sanded it back to make it even with where dogs had chewed through it so it wasn't jutting out then I buffered the rest out with the sander. It took me about two hours giving the sander a break in between and monitoring how it was going through the process. I hope that gives you a bigger picture of how I did it. 🙂

Thank you. Yes, that is right. There are three sets of doors I did. The one you see with the dog/cat door is a standalone door from the other two. There is a wall in between that door and the other two remaining doors.
