How to adjust Ozito drop saw blade guard?

Hi i have an ozito drops saw model 1621. 210mm. I have had it for 5 yrs so out of warranty. THE blade guard has stopped moving all the way up. JUST MOVES A few inches. I've tried tightening the middle screw but it's not that? Can't find any thing in manual. The red plastic part that you move under handle still moves ok? Hiw to fix adjust?

I'm sorry to hear your drop saw is acting up. A drop saw (mitre saw) blade guard that refuses to move is sometimes caused by a build-up of sawdust, a bent mechanism, or a faulty spring. The most common solution is to clean and lubricate the pivot points, check if the guard link arm has popped out of its channel, or tighten loose screws on the assembly. It's also possible that it has a default safety mechanism that might have gotten triggered. Look carefully and observe if anything is getting in the way of the blade guard as it rises.

The first thing I recommend is purchase this (or similar).

Can of compressed air with extension tube which will give you good access to get right in there and clean out everything.

Then proceed as @EricL advised to lubricate the pivot points.

I’d agree with the others here, it sounds very much like debris caught in the mechanism, a linkage that has become disconnected, or a broken or worn part preventing the guard from travelling fully.

I just wanted to add that with any troubleshooting or cleaning on a saw, it’s imperative that the machine is switched off, and the plug is disconnected from the wall outlet before you start, as this keeps things safe while you’re inspecting, cleaning out dust, or checking the guard linkage and pivots.

The mechanics of a retracting guard typically involves an arm with an elongated slot which some form of metal but most likely plastic pin slides along. If you have already checked and cleaned all other moving parts, ititss possible this pin is damaged/missing preventing the arm from moving freely. Though not likely it could be the retracting spring has lost some of its springing action.

If you go to the product page and download the parts diagram, I would start by dismantling the guard and working your way through the condition of the parts.

As a 'retired' electrical draughtsman - I've always found those cutaway schematics in tool brochures - utterly appalling in quality. 😁

Maybe some photos @magsc would help the diagnosis?

I am thinking of built up sawdust that has solidified more so since last time you used it. I would be unplugging the unit, then dismantle the cover (and yeah the exploded out diagrams that @Noyade has mentioned do come in handy even if they arent so accurate 🙂 )

I have found compacted sawdust gumming up the exhaust of my drop saw (yeah I was lazy and didnt keep it clear) so I am heading towards that way of thinking.
