How do I fix this hole in my Weatherboard house?

I recently moved into my first home and had an old heater removed, leaving a hole in the exterior of the house where the exhaust vent used to be (see photo, hand for scale). How would I go about fixing this? I'm a little concerned with doing it poorly as I don't want to do it wrong and have water seeping into the wall and causing damage. Thank you!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your weatherboard house.

One possible way to fix the damage is to replace the entire panel with a similar product. But this will require you to remove a large section of the weatherboard and patch it with a new cut panel. If not done properly it could cause more issues down the line.

Another suggested method is to cut the circle opening with a multi tool and turn it a square opening. I then suggest using a similar weatherboard product and cut it into a square shape and glue it over the opening. It will require you to place a timber support piece inside the opening so that the outer patch will have something to lean onto. Once the patch is placed over the hole you can then fill it with builder's bog and level it with the existing weatherboard. The edges can also be sealed with silicone if the patch is in level with the weatherboards.

One more suggestion is to fill the hole with self-expanding foam. The excess foam can then be cut off and a square piece of Australian Handyman Supplies 600 x 300 x 0.55mm Galvabond Mini Sheet can be cut down into a square the bottom edge bent and attached with silicone to cover the opening. The sheet can be screwed onto the surface if you want to secure it further.
