How to build timber sleeper steps on a steep slope?

Hi,

I was considering some timber sleeper steps as an option to replace some loose pavers that are currently a makeshift path off to the side of our house on a reasonably steeply sloped block. I've attached some images from projects I've seen online that look great and serve as inspiration.

I’d love some practical tips or advice on such a project including:

– How to anchor sleepers securely into the ground (e.g. rebar, star pickets, concrete?)

– What base prep would be needed to prevent movement, drainage issues

– Whether treated pine sleepers are suitable for in-ground use long-term

Any other issues or common mistakes to avoid would also be really appreciated.

Mmmm its a bit hard to sugegst anything without a photo of your yard/area that you want as things will change depending on what we see.

There are so many variables its hard to find a starting point without a photo. A sketch as @EricL has mentioned is generally my fist suggestion, that will help sort out the path (excuse the pun :) ) that you want to follow.

These discussions and guides should give you a solid idea of what you need to do to construct your sleeper steps. My best advice is to take measurements and draw your plan on paper so that you have a clear idea of how far to dig and how big your sleeper step frames will be.
