How to replace wardrobe door rollers or fittings?

Hello,

We have some 20-30 year old wardrobes and the wheels on the wardrobe door rollers are broken. We've been on a wild goose chase (from Bunnings to several specialist places) last year trying to replace the fitting, but nobody was able to source a replacement, as I guess these are quite old?

Now my question: am I able to replace the fittings with a different type of fitting somehow? Will I need to replace the tracks on the floor? Do I need to get completely new sliding doors?

Hi @etf,

If you place a flat tool like a flathead screwdriver under the silver piece which was on the back of the roller, can you lever it up?

I'd say there's a good chance this will pull the axle out so you can remove the wheel.

Give this a try and let me know how you go.

It would be great if we could just replace the wheels but so far we haven't been able to get them out. I'll attach pictures of what they look like front and back, and maybe you have an idea?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Looking at your roller carriages, I don't think there is any need to replace them. If you can find how to remove them, it should be relatively simple to replace the wheels.

If you unscrew the carriage from the door, is there a screw on the back of the carriage in the centre of the wheel? Or perhaps you can take a tool such as a flathead screwdriver and lightly pry the carriage apart so the axle pops free and the wheel falls out.

If you can get the wheel out, which is fairly likely, you can simply take the wheels in store with you and match them up with a concave roller in the same diameter.

Start with some investigation about whether or not you can remove that wheel. If not, we can look at replacement options for the roller, but I don't think it is really necessary.
