How to fix very small hole in 'valley' of Colorbond corrugated roof sheet?

Any suggesting about the best way to repair a hole in the valley of a Colorbond roof sheet?

Standard 'S wave' corrugation

Photos below.

Less than the width of your little finger nail

Hole would barely be a household piece of string in thickness

The ceiling leaked twice in the last 3 months - finally found the hole today (was not easy to find!!)

The roof sheeting was only installed 3 years ago (maybe some tradie damaged it after installation, such as the solar panel installers)

The hole raises upwards like a 'volcano'

Hi @Victory,

To truly fix the issue, you could either replace the sheet or have it welded to close up the gap. If you wanted to explore this option, I'd suggest you get in touch with a local welder for their assistance.

If you'd just like a quick fix to stop water in until a time when you could either replace the sheet or have it welded shut, you could use some weatherproofing tape like this CAgroup 100mm x 10m Weatherproof Byute Flash Flashing Tape to cover the hole.

I ended up finding the cause of the hole - when it was re-roofed with Colorbond to replace the decramastic 'tile' sheeting, the existing roof batten fixings (pretty sure nails were used) weren't removed or only some were removed. Those fixing heads slowly dinted then punctured a hole in the sheet. I had to open the hole wider & use a flat blade screwdriver to bash the fixing in further, before folding the hole edges back down.

Then I filled with silicone & smoothed said silicone up & down from the hole about 200mm either way. Should last many years. See photo

NB for HOMEOWNERS: When a roofing plumber re-roofs, make sure they remove all old fixings. Yes, they are liable with a Plumbing Certificate of Compliance, but it becomes an awkward area of responsibility/liability, if solar panels were later installed!!

Eighteen years ago I was at a trade display and a guy stopped me and asked if I owned a welder.

Yes.

So then he proceeded to explain the benefits of a very light inverter welder - where you can carry it anywhere - even on a roof. I asked what would I ever want to weld on my roof.

So I tried it (but on the ground) - and was amazed how hard it was with the inverter. I guess MiG would be much easier? I started at around 15-20 amps with a 2 mm rod and instead of 'sizzling' it 'snaps' in sound. So then up to 50 amps and a 2.5 rod - and then quickly circling the hole building up metal.

6.5 mm hole.

Then I devised a new technique. With the sort of 'slit' injury above - pull the sides back and insert a small strip of corrugated Iron so adding more metal to begin with.

Worked better - but I wouldn't want to do it for a living.
