How to replace pull-out hose for mixer tap?

Hi Bunnings,

How do you replace a pull-out hose, for a kitchen mixer tap?

I had already disconnected the hose. However, it is difficult to pull it through the unit because of the crowded connections at the base. Do I need to unscrew the nut which is locking-in the crescent moon shaped plate? I tried to do that, but the working area was too tight to get a good grip.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

The short answer is, yes, you will have to remove the nut to remove the crescent shaped plate which will allow the connector hoses to pull out.

I believe you should be able to remove the long sleeve at the bottom of the thread, then use a Haron Mixer Tap Spanner Kit to remove the nut from the top of the thread.

If you are unable to remove the threaded sleeve, then you may have to use something like an adjustable wrench to remove the top nut. It will be tricky due to the angle, but once you get the nut moving, it shouldn't be too difficult to remove it by hand.

I had tried using a wrench to remove the long sleeve first, but it simply rotated everything. Thanks for the links. I will get an extra deep wrench and then try to hold the nut in place whilst I remove the sleeve.

Hi @user721,

I can't see the mixer tap spanner having clearance to the top nut while that sleeve is in place, so I'd say it needs to be removed before you can loosen the top nut.

You should in theory be able to hold the thread in place with some multigrip pliers while rotating the sleeve off with a wrench.

@Noyade I got a wrench (https://www.bunnings.com.au/kincrome-250mm-adjustable-wide-mouth-wrench_p0491592) and lowered the nut. This loosened the unit so I could lift the housing up just enough to give space to pull out the flexi pipe.

@JacobZ I don't think it is a real sleeve that can be removed. Also, that threaded rod is actually also a pipe into which the combined flexi-hose connects into (in the original photo, this had been disconnected first).

However, there is still a problem as to how the tap unit can be removed if there is a problem with one of the cold or hot flexi-pipes, and they need to be replaced. Actually, I think a small leak has sprung now. The issue is that the threaded rod/pipe actually goes through the crescent-shaped plate. So the tap unit is still trapped in the bench. I tried twisting the rod/pipe loose with a wrench, but it seems unusually tight to be something that is meant to be removable.

Theoretically speaking the threaded rod pipe nut should come off in order for the tap to be uninstalled. Just out of curiosity have you tried to slip the pullout hose back into the neck of the tap and down out the bottom? There should be enough space for the hose to pass through. I'm looking at the Kinetic Stainless Steel Mixer Hose Vege Spray Hose, is it similar to your hose or does it have a different end to it?

One technique you can try is to remove the cold flexi hose from the tap itself so that you have room to slide the Vege hose. You can then slide the cold flexi hose back onto the bottom fitting of the tap. By getting the hose installed it should save you the trouble of having to take the tap apart.

Yes, I had managed to get the pull out hose out. After loosening the nut, the unit could be lifted up just enough to allow more space to pull the hose out.

Actually, that hose you linked to is very similar to the one I got, although from a different store.

Okay, I will try to remove the threaded rod again.

As I suggested in my last post, perhaps you can try to re-install the hose the same way you got it out. If you are successful, you will be able to re-assemble everything without having to take the tap off the sink.
