How to replace wardrobe drawer?

Hello,

I need some advice on replacing the bottom of a wardrobe drawer that broke. I was hoping to just undo one of the sides and slide in a new board, but it turns out the drawer is completely glued, so I can’t disassemble it easily.

Does anyone know where I might find a replacement drawer – maybe from Kaboodle or somewhere similar? I’ve had a quick look online but can’t find a standard size that matches. The drawer measures approximately 500 mm wide × 400 mm deep × 140 mm high.

Does this sound like a standard size, or am I more likely to need a custom-made replacement?

Any hacks or DIY solutions for repairing it instead of replacing the whole drawer would be welcomed!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your wardrobe drawer.

If you still have the original bottom panel, I suggest placing it over a CUSTOMwood 900 x 600 x 3mm Backing Board White Standard E0 MDF. The panel should be the same thickness as the one that you have but if the MDF is too thin then you'll need to use something else. One of the corners will need to be opened up in order to install the replacement piece. The corner can be secured again using Carinya 20 x 20 x 15 x 1.4mm White Reinforcing Angle Bracket - 12 Pack and standard timber screws.

Another recommended method is to place the drawer over a 1200 x 597 x 12mm Film Face Panel. Trace the inside size of the drawer panel and cut the size accordingly. Once panel is cut, sand the sides of the panel to remove any roughness and splinters. Apply some Selleys liquid nails on the inside of the drawer walls. Slide the panel inside the drawer until its in-line with the bottom of the drawer. the next step is to drill pilot holes on the side of the drawer and into the panel. The pilot holes will prevent the panel and the drawer walls from splitting.
