How to fix a PCD that keeps switching off?

Hi, I suddenly lost power in one kitchen room, while the rest of the room still has electricity. I checked the switchboard and noticed that the Residual Current Device (RCD) keeps switching off.When I press the reset button, it trips again immediately. I have already unplugged all electrical devices from the room but the RCD still won’t stay on.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and how I can fix it? is it circuit breaker problem or power socket problem?

If the RCD keeps tripping immediately even after you’ve unplugged all appliances, it’s usually a sign that it’s detecting a fault somewhere on that circuit. RCDs are designed to switch off when they detect current leakage, which helps prevent electric shock, so they normally trip for a reason rather than failing randomly.

Since you’ve already unplugged everything and it still won’t reset, the issue could be something like a fault in the wiring, a damaged power point, moisture in an outlet, or a problem somewhere else on that circuit. It’s also possible (though less common) that the RCD itself has developed a fault.

At this point, it would be best to contact a licensed electrician to inspect the circuit. They’ll be able to test the wiring and outlets safely and identify exactly what’s causing the RCD to trip.
