Hi there, I am hoping for some advice on what to buy and how to build a small wall to enclose our under stairs area from the passageway next to it (that leads to toilet, bathroom, etc).
The wall would go on the left-hand side in this photo. Jarrah floorboards. Enclosed above already (? pywood). I think happy to keep the floor bare so we can change its use over time eg kids book nook, study area, etc.
New to DIY but planning to do a few wood work projects coming up! Thanks in advance
Hello @ChookyV
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about building a nook under the stairs.
This is one of the most useful upgrades you can apply to the space under the stairs. Part of the upper wall can serve as a bookcase or display shelf. A desk can be built to serve as an informal office or study spot for the kids. A drawer can be placed under the desk for storage of office items and children's colouring pen. A very compact office chair with castors would be perfect as it can be pushed into the desk and out of the way.
Generally speaking, it would be better if a wall was not placed in the space to keep the look nice and open. By building the bookshelf and desk you can create a less formal look and feeling but keeping all that extra functionality I mentioned earlier.
You can create a nice /office study nook with the following materials:
Standard chipboard screws ranging from 40mm to 60mm will need to be used along with wall plugs and angle brackets to anchor the benchtop to the wall and stair structure. You have the choice of either painting the wood or using a clear sealer to keep the timber finish.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @Nailbag, @twocutekelpies and @Noyade for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Just to add to the suggestions made, should you wish to build a wall for that nook here are some handy guides - How To Build A Stud Wall and How to install plasterboard. I've also included a sample Sketchup image to give you an idea of what the open nook can look like.
Good Evening @ChookyV
Well I was thinking you wanted an enclosed area :) and then I read @EricL 's response and woooo I like his idea much better. Also It sounds like he is on the right page as to what you want.
So as an alternative, tho still like @EricL's as option A and Option B as a preference.
How about making up some cubes with wheels, Something that can be parked under the stairs but moved out if wanted. Everything from say a Bench seat along the lines below. It can be modified in a range of ways and is incredibly strong.
That has a hollow center to store stuff, or straight up boxes with wheels and a nice top so they can be used as a bench, extra space at parties type of deal. You install the framed wall as @EricL has suggested so it gives the area a specific tidy feel. You could even go for high backed boxes on wheels that function as bookshelves and storage in the box but I liek the bench or straight out box as a multipurpuse use.
