How to fix alignment of Ozito Mitre Saw?

My Ozito Double Bevel Sliding Compound Mitre Saw 210mm is having an issue. When I move the mitre table angle either right or left, there is scraping and resistance. I have blown, dusted and vacuumed. Before I spray WD40, is there a way to get under the plate for a clean out?

Welcome to the Bunnings workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about your Ozito mitre saw.

This is quite a common issue on a 210mm sliding mitre saw and it’s usually just compacted sawdust trapped between the rotating mitre table and the base. Blowing from above often doesn’t reach the debris because it gets packed underneath the turntable, so it’s worth trying to clean under the plate before spraying anything. Start by unplugging the saw for safety, then rotate the mitre table fully left and right while shining a torch into the circular gap between the table and base. You’ll often see compressed dust sitting in there. Removing the throat plate around the blade gives much better access so you can vacuum deeper into the cavity and gently loosen packed dust. While doing this, keep rotating the table side to side because debris tends to sit in different spots depending on the angle.

Using an air compressor with a standard blow gun is definitely advisable and is often the most effective way to clear the packed dust. A narrow nozzle lets you direct air right into the gap while rotating the table, which helps lift debris that a vacuum can’t reach. Just use moderate pressure and short bursts so you don’t force dust deeper into the mechanism or into the detent spring area. It also helps to vacuum at the same time if possible, or blow outward from the centre so debris exits the gap rather than being pushed further inside. Once everything is cleaned out, it’s better to avoid spraying regular WD-40 because it leaves an oily film that attracts more sawdust and the scraping often comes back. A dry lubricant works much better for this application. Apply a very light mist into the gap while slowly rotating the mitre table so it distributes evenly. In most cases, once the compacted dust is removed and a dry lubricant is applied, the table should rotate smoothly again and the scraping disappears.

In nearly all cases with difficulties moving the table, bevel and slide comes down to what @EricL highlighted being compressed sawdust. With the first two effecting angle accuracy. I use a workshop blower after I finishing using all my tools other than drills and drivers. You can buy essentially the same looking blower across most brands since the patten ran out a long time ago. Whats becoming very popular now are these compact high-velocity ones which you can find a wide range of price-points online, but to my knowledge Bunnings is yet to get on board.

I'm pretty much going to reinforce @EricL comments here as I too personally don't recommend using any form of sprays etc that can essentially turn sawdust into mud making the situation worse. A stiff short haired cheap paint brush, a blower and dry rag is best. Then use a dry-lube silicone spray lightly on the slide rails only every now and again and only after they have been wiped clean end to end. Something like this is perfect.

Now having said all that, what concerns me is a scraping noise. I assume by that you mean its metal on metal? If so, thats not sawdust, but possibly one of two possibilities. The first could be small fragments of metal, especially if you have used there saw to cut aluminium. The second is the table bearing is failing or failed. In either case it's a matter of turning the saw over and maybe first try loosening the table off so it can be cleaned more effectively or removing it if your confident of doing so and then putting it back on.

I am nad at cleaning the inside of my saw and often the sawdust bag itself…. That was until I realised how compacted sawdust can becoem. I went to empty the sawdust bag but even afterwards there was no filling of it, the sawdust had almost become solid in the tube towards the sock. As with @EricL and @Nailbag I would go thrpough with it unplugged and clean it, you may have a stubborn piece of timber stuck up somewhere causing that friction noise (I am hoping) I dont have access to a blower at home so I use a sash tool (paintbrush) to clean it down after use daily. Do you get the noise when you tilt the blade at an angle as well?

What is the locking mechanism on the Ozito? Could it be rubbing against the indentation frame when repositioning?

Might be worth taking it to Bunnings and show/reproduce the problem to the tool department staff for their thoughts.
