What brackets to support solid surface vanity top?

Hello,

I’m after some advice on the best brackets to use for supporting a solid surface benchtop. I have built a vanity for my bathroom. It has a 400mm cabinet anchored into the wall next to which is my washing machine. I have added a door to cover the washing machine and will put a solid surface benchtop across the top so it looks like one big vanity. I will silicon glue the benchtop to the cabinet on the left and use brackets to support the benchtop on the other side. Which brackets would be suitable? I will fasten the brackets into wall with masonry screws and glue a strip of ply to the underside of the benchtop to attach brackets to the bench top. The unsupported (no cabinet underneath) part of the benchtop will be 660mm long. The benchtop will be 640mm deep. Thanks

This is a much better solution. I will see what is possible space wise for cross braces. If the pine is going to be a tight fit I might re purpose some steel braces I used to support my kitchen benchtop in between cabinets.

Hello @crisis

Yes, the pine dressed board can be used solo. There is no need to use the brackets as the pine will be supporting the edges of the benchtop. If you are after support in the middle, you can install at least two cross brace timber pieces going across the washing machine. These will be attached to the cabinet and the other pine support piece across the washing machine. But as I mentioned space is at a premium so its critical that the washing machine be perfectly balanced.

thanks @Dave-1 and @EricL. I hadn’t thought of the adding a cross brace. Can I clarify your alternative suggestion of using the pine dressed board?  Are you suggesting fixing this directly to the wall, as opposed to fixing the brackets to the wall and the pine dressed board to the brackets?
