How to drill weepholes on sliding door track?

Hi, I am wondering if it is necessary to drill a few weepholes onto the sliding track of my aluminum sliding door facing my balcony?

I haven't had any particular issue with water ingress yet but water does tend to pool on the track if it is poured onto it & unfortunately the balcony level seems to be levelled with internal floors.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your sliding door.

I suggest making a thorough assessment of the area before you consider drilling into the tracks of your aluminium door.

• Is it exposed to the weather? If it is, then it is very likely that rain will hit the glass surface and travel down to your tracks causing it to pool and overflow.
• Are the tracks open at the ends? If they are then there is already an exit point for the rainwater to flow out of.
• Is the tiled floor sloping to your door or to the outside? If the water does not flow away from your tiled floor, it will become a slipping hazard.

If it is not exposed to heavy rain or in danger of flooding, I don't recommend drilling into the rail. But if you feel that this is a safety measure that you would like to apply, my best advice is to make sure to drill the drain holes far from where the wheels of the door are running. This will prevent the wheels from running over any weak spots on the rail.
