are the Dremel and Ryobi Rotary hobby tool accessories interchangeable?
ie can I use Dremel accessories on my Ryobi 130 watt Rotary Hobby tool.
regards KiwiPeter
Hi @Kiwipeter,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
If you can, could you confirm the exact model number of your Ryobi tool, as that will make it easier to give you a definite answer? I am assuming it is the https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ryobi-essential-rotary-tool-rrt090_p0456165 , but thought I should double check.
If so, the RRT090 comes with a 3.2mm collet and a 1.6mm collet, which allow for the use of different sized bits.
In general, both Dremel and Ryobi rotary tools commonly use a 1/8" (3.2 mm) shank, so a lot of the standard accessories are interchangeable between the two brands.
Also worth noting, there are actually quite a few Ryobi rotary accessories available through the Bunnings NZ website, including full kits, burrs, sanding sets and polishing gear, so it might be worth having a look online as we can definitely order and ship them to you.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob
Ok i am very new here so assume i reply to jacob here.
Thanks for your advice. My handtool is quite old. I will see if it actually still have a model number. It serves me well. I am disabled and my hobby is Meccano
.in the course of this hoɓby i need ti recondition older parts which sometimes involves cutting and grinding broken ends and sharp ends. As well as sanding rust. One my major problems of course is my nearest store is a Trade store in pukekohe which i assume i can not shop at because it is trade.
Anyway i will look for the model number today if i am able. And many thanks for at least repling.
Regards peter
"My handtool is quite old."
Morning @Kiwipeter
Just a stab in the dark - this model? (fits all Dremel/Ryobi/generic branded accessories).
Regards the Mitre10 Trade Centre. Order online - delivery to your store - you pick it up. Have you talked to them? Otherwise do what Jacob has suggested.
Cheers.
In my experience, Ryobi runs the same shaft size as Dremel and the Dremel bits should be compatible with your machine. Always best to double-check the shaft size on any bits you have at the moment and compare. Regarding our Trade stores, they are open to the general public as well, so no issues shopping at Bunnings Pukekohe. However, they typically carry a smaller range of products. They do have some Dremel accessories, but the range is limited.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Ok Model is CRT150K and has a 3.2 and a 2.4 collet RYOBI
Thanks Mitchell
Pukekohe Trade would be far easier for me. I really need cutting parts.
Noyade Thanks for the info. NOT sure location of Mitre 10 Trade centre. Being disabled Travelling's a bit of a problem. Do you mean Mega store.. which would be Pukekohe.
I went to the local Mitre 10 store in Waiuku over the weekend. They were totally unhelpful to say the least.
Seem to have no idea where I could get parts and didn't seem to know a thing…
Regards Peter
Dremel uses a 3.2mm shaft, so the accessories will fit in your Ryobi. As I mentioned, the Trade stores carry a limited range, so it would be best to phone the store to see if they have what you need before travelling there.
anyone had experience with the Fuller Rotary Tool Kit
Hello @Kiwipeter
I'm sorry but I am not familiar with the rotary kit you've mentioned. However, the https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ozito-239-piece-rotary-tool-accessory-kit_p0380452 and the https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ozito-109-accessories-rotary-tool-set-with-flex-shaft-plus_p0313708 along with the https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ozito-170w-rotary-tool-kit-with-190-accessories_p8907310 offer a similar tool head layout with polishers, sanders and cutters. They carry a 3year warranty, should you decide to purchase one, my best advice is to take a photo of your docket so that you have a record on your phone.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Hi @Kiwipeter
"Fuller Rotary Tool Kit"
I would go Dremel - the Fuller looks to be the same generic brand as these - with toggle on/off switch and variable speed dial on the other side…
Do you remember the 1998 Dremel commercial? At around 15 seconds in the video it slices through a nail (2mm diameter?) in less than a second. Dunno if the ad was rigged - but I could never replicate it with cheaper brands. But then, how often do you want to cut a nail in half with a hobby tool? 😁
Takes me around 15 seconds - depending on the cutting disk.
yes problem being I really need a flexible handle as I would not be able to hold the tool with my disability I would think, My Ryobi is getting rather old and I seriously need something to grind etc
So, it sounds like you'd like to replace your tool @Kiwipeter. Dremel does have the https://www.bunnings.co.nz/dremel-flex-shaft-attachment-225-_p0376352 . On the more budget side, Ozito also has the https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ozito-rotary-tool-flexible-shaft-stand_p0361918 . For full kits, you have the https://www.bunnings.co.nz/dremel-3000-2-30-130w-corded-rotary-tool-kit_p0301384 , https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ozito-109-accessories-rotary-tool-set-with-flex-shaft-plus_p0313708 or https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ozito-pxc-18v-cordless-rotary-tool-station-pxrts-018-skin-only_p0412279 . I didn't explain that very well. Where I am there is a private trade centre that acts as a Mitre10 agent. Order/pay online for Mitre10 products and they're delivered there for you to pick up. I thought there may be something similar in NZ.
Did you eventually get it all sorted? Cheers.
