How to sharpen Full Boar HSS M35 drill bit?

I purchased this drill bit set (over a year ago) thinking cobalt would be the way to go no matter who manufactured it.

But now I am convinced Full Boar was not the way to go as they're all chipping on the cutting surface with minimal use. I only use them for mild steel and they're not overworked.

The other day I used the 7mm bit for the first time - mild steel, four holes, 8mm depth. This is the result….

A question and an assumption.

Can I attempt to sharpen these drill bits - despite the cobalt?

Would Sutton have been a better choice?

I'm sorry to hear you've had an issue with those bits.

You can definitely sharpen cobalt drill bits in the same fashion as standard HSS, so that part isn’t an issue.

That said, given they’re only about a year old and you’ve experienced that level of chipping with relatively light use, it’s not what we’d expect. In this case, we’d be happy to look at swapping the kit over for you.

In terms of your other question, I’ve personally used the Sutton cobalt bits and had a really good run with them, no chipping issues at all.
