How to fix gas cooktop burner igniter?

Hi!  My pramco gas burner’s self-starter suddenly stopped working. When I press the ignition button, it goes down without making the usual sparking sound. It feels like something underneath may be broken or disconnected. In the meantime, I have been using a lighter to ignite the burner.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or know if this is something that can be repaired with probable cost? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

N.B.can i fix this by myself or asked for a professional? is this burner attached with the oven as well ?

Try it - any spark? If not - I'm with @JacobZ  - most likely the sparking module, which looks like a centipede with arms reaching to all the gas points and connected to 240V. This was a Lofra stove/oven. An appliance specialist would be the way to go @Tann - at least get a quote. Cheers.

Hi @Tann,

As the burner still lights with a lighter, it means the gas supply is working and the issue is with the ignition system itself. If pressing the ignition button no longer produces the usual clicking or sparking sound, the problem could be a faulty ignition switch, a loose wire connection, or a failed spark generator module.

While some simple checks can be done yourself, I will recommend having an appliance repair technician inspect it if the fault appears to be inside the unit. Gas appliances can be unsafe to dismantle without the proper knowledge and tools. Repair costs will depend on the exact cause, but a faulty igniter shouldn't be hugely expensive to replace.

Before arranging a repair, it may be worth checking whether the cooktop has power, as many gas cooktops require electricity for the ignition system to operate. If the unit is plugged into a power point, make sure the plug has not come loose.

If this is not the cause, or it is not safe for you to conduct this check yourself, then it would be best to contact an appliance repair technician for their assistance.
