How to install replacement fully framed shower?

Sorry about this long post.

My existing shower leaks from front RH frame corner and across the floor to the wall (tested this myself with dye / leak test) and also leaks from front LH side to the wall behind.

I really don't want to deal with tiles and grout anymore if I can avoid it. I would prefer an acrylic all-in-one or a standard fully framed shower with a high acrylic base if possible.

I'm really struggling finding a shower reno company who will provide some initial advice on how to proceed. They just want to quote and get going.

I found this Bunnings post / and Jacob's answer was very helpful:

"What is the right order for a bathroom renovation?".

First, get asbestos check. (My house was built early 1980s?- not sure). I'm yet to do this, but will. Then I will arrange for the demolition, which may or may not include the next stage.

Then remove tiles and backing sheets if I want the walls to be completely waterproofed? I would prefer PVC panels as this seems to be the most water-proofed option but I understand the tiles and cement sheeting need to be removed first as applying directly on tiles won't adhere properly?

This alone sounds very expensive and I'm really relying on the expertise on the tiler or whoever does this.

How do I know if shower base will be compatible with the framed shower screen? Can I buy a complete shower unit, say from Bunnings? Would this simplify things?

I was also considering a Flair all in one pre-fab acrylic shower but I understand these need to be installed by a builder / carpenter which sounds expensive as well. I would actually prefer this option for the leak-free aspects but these don't seem popular at all and the manufacturer doesn't go out of his way to offer any advice. I don't care about how it looks. I just want the most leak-free option.

Would appreciate any advice as I'm finding it difficult to get a start on this.

Thank you for sharing your question about your shower renovation. I understand how stressful it can be when you can't get a clear picture of how to proceed with your renovation. The steps you've mentioned are very sound specially with the asbestos testing. This test is important as having asbestos in your home adds complexity to your renovation plans.

I therefore suggest having the test done first. The results from the test will dictate the next steps you'll be taking. If it is positive, you'll need to engage the services of an asbestos removal specialist. It's a necessary expense and there is no way around it, I recommend preparing for that expense so that you will not get shocked at the added cost of the renovation.

However, if the results are negative, you can then proceed with a standard demolition. I recommend asking the trades person for a detailed quote so that you can see what steps will be taken when your bathroom is revamped. I suggest a minimum of three quotes from three different trades people and make sure that they provide references so that you can see their past work. It's also important to check their social media accounts as they will be displaying their previous work.

The shower kits available at the store are usually branded for compatibility. An Estilo shower base is compatible with an Estilo shower door frame kit and an acrylic wall liner. The same goes for Mondella and Rick McCleans shower sets.

The acrylic base with an acrylic wall liner is the most secure shower the store offers. We currently don't carry an all-in-one single moulded shower cubicle. In regard to the installation of the shower kits, it would require the services of a professional so that it's properly installed.

I suggest taking your renovation one step at a time. As each step is accomplished you get closer to your goal of a properly renovated bathroom. I also recommend not rushing into the demolition, it's best to be prepared with your plans and your budget fully organized.
