I want to create a home office in my new home. I've got a concept design as shown but I'm not sure how to go about building it. Would this sort of thing be possible using Kaboodle or Lugna products?
Hi @jollyroger,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
You can absolutely construct something resembling this using the Kaboodle or Lugna products and then work in the accessories around them.
I'd encourage you to have a play around with the Kaboodle and Lugna's 3D planners, which have their products integrated into them. Using the dimensions and the render as your source material, you can use them to design your desk and cabinetry and then be provided with a list of products that would be required to make it possible.
Here is what I have quickly come up with using the Kaboodle planner.
Obviously, there would be additional things to consider with the integrated lighting and floating desks, but fundamentally, it can be done using the Kaboodle or Lugna systems.
Have a play around and see what you think. We can certainly discuss the finer details if you have any further questions.
Jacob
Oh wow. That's pretty cool. Did you create that in Kaboodle or Lugna? Can you share it with me so I can access it some way? Is that even possible with those planners?
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Roger
Hi Roger (@jollyroger),
I used the Kaboodle planner for this. It is good fun to play around with and is relatively intuitive to use. I'd encourage you to have a go.
Here are the products that were used in the design-
If you'd like some assistance, our instore Kitchen Experts offer consultations to help you put your own design together. They'll be able to help with a more solid design plan that can be used to order the components.
I'll give it a go. How would you suggest I support the benchtop?
Floating desks are certainly possible, but with the wide span of the floating sections, it would be tricky to achieve. You'd need to support the desk by anchoring a subframe into the studs. I have seen custom systems, but they were installed by skilled tradespeople and did not use a premade product.
Honestly, I think the best thing you could do is add a cabinet on either side and have the benchtops run over the top of them and the cabinet in the centre. It makes things simpler, would add additional storage, and realistically, you could still have 1.4m of uninterrupted space beneath each desk if you use a 400mm cabinet on each side.
Allow me to tag some of our helpful members such as @Dave-1, @Nailbag and @TedBear to see if they have any ideas.
Let me know what you think.
Good Afternoon @jollyroger
I would also add a rail at the back of the benches to what @JacobZ has suggested. Having flex in a bench is a pain as it always hangs in the mind if it wll support whatever you put on it. You could go for a minimal size side stand but shortening the span is a better way to make it last and be useful.
Dave
I think the best way forward would be to add drawer units at each end as well as the one in the middle and run the desk over the top.
@JacobZ can you tell me please how I access benchtops in the Kaboodle planner.
They can be found here -
Click the cabinets button, then the resizable benchtops button.
You can also simply type benchtop into the search bar and it will bring up the 3D assets that match your search terms.
Hi @jollyroger
@JacobZ has already provided some terrific insight and design samples. Just to extend on these, I've been impressed looking at recent in-store displays that Kaboodle have really stepped up their product line with a range of timber finish hutches and shelving systems. These would tie in very nice with your concept drawings.
When using their online design program just watch for end filler panels with the overheads. You want to allow for imperfections in the squareness of the walls and being a few mm short of actual. This will make installation of hanging cabinetry a lot easier and can be then gap filled. Allow for any overhead/under-shelf low voltage lighting cables and fixtures. And of could electrical rough in that includes outlets with USB ports.
As long as the workbenches don;t have too long a space, they may only need support along the back walls and return sides with 19mm x 42mm DAR pine. Essentially like any wardrobe shelf is supported. Look forward to the progress. Would be a great project to share.
