How to fix clip in tube light?

Question

The side housing of a tube light in our kitchen has shattered, and now no longer holds the side connector in place. As a result, the light doesn’t stay fixed in place and can’t be used. None of the electrical aspects are damaged. Are there any options to replace the side casing, or do we need to have the full batten light fixture replaced by an electrician?

I’ve included images of the side with the connector that’s now hanging free, and the side in-tact side of comparison. Appreciate any advice!

Years ago I made a pact with myself.

* Never buy a mobile phone.
* Don't get seduced buying Lithium Ion tools.
* Don't use LED lighting.

Broken all three. I would never purchase/repair fluorescent lighting anymore. Get it replaced with LED lighting @noahidea

This one is literally 'Brilliant' - which @JacobZ mentioned above…

And it comes with a 'brilliant' locking cover system. Way better than the older style insertion clips.

Not that you ever need to remove the cover.

Unfortunately, I'd say there's a good chance the whole batten light fitting will need to be replaced. The end casing is part of the fitting itself and is not typically available as a separate replacement part. Even though the electrical components may not appear damaged, the fitting is no longer securely holding the tube in place and is therefore not fit for use and should not be used in its current condition.

As this is a hardwired light fitting, replacement would need to be carried out by a licensed electrician.

In the meantime, I’d suggest leaving the light switched off until it has been inspected and replaced.
