How to repair lip of bathtub hanging over tiling?

Hi folks'

Unfortunately when the house was built the brickwork was not level and has now thrown everything out of whack.

The problem I'm having is with the bathtub. It hangs over the tiling and is quite an eyesore. The tiler did his best to fill the gap with silicone but it looks average.

Any suggestions in what could be done would be greatly appreciated.

That appears to be a large amount of silicone on the bathtub. I understand the tiler was trying their best, but it appears that too much was applied in the corner. Would it be possible to ask for a photo that is not so close to the edge of the bath? I would like to request for a shot that is a little bit further so that our members can see what it looks like from the top.

Have you tried to sand the silicone down to give it a smoother finish? Can it be just a thin bead on the edges or will the corner of the bath be over exposed? Would it be possible to remove the silicone and replace it with https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-50g-knead-it-aqua-epoxy-putty_p1230080 . You can contour the putty like playdoh and then paint over it to disguise its colour.

I would be inclined to take the side wall tiles off and frame the wall out to fill that gap at the end and retile.

Though essentially leaving a small ledge under the bath lip, it will have a very acceptable clean finish.

Im inclined to use the putty that @EricL has mentioned as it does seem suitable for your purpose. If possible a shot of the end of the bath would make it a lot easier to make a suggestion. With the amount of silastic that has been used I wonder if you have a photo of the bath before the silastic was applied? The putty would be a good fill and a lot neater and then you add a smaller amount of silicone for a tidier job.

Thank you for sharing those extra photos of your bath. If you have the budget set aside for this repair, I suggest re-tiling the bath to totally fix the misalignment. There is also Nailbag's suggestion of reframing the bath wall. But if you are not prepared to spend that much on the repair, then changing the silicone to mouldable putty would be the affordable solution. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend on this particular repair.

I dont think the putty will hide/cover the issue :/ The Bathtub and the misalignment is a little too far out for an easy fix. Redoing the frame that the bath sits on so its straight is where my head is going to. Tho that means removing the tiles and a largish amount of work. The transition from that flat no edge on the left down to the lip you would have to loose. That looks like what they have tried to do.

Maybe live with it for awhile and save some $$$ for a mini redo?

Thank you all for your valuable input. It looks like the redo of the bath frame and tiling is the best solution as the puddy would look only slightly better.

I personally am amazed the tiler even started the job without telling you to get the wall fixed! the thing is , it isn't just the tiles on the side of the bath that will have to come off, you will also have to take tiles off the floor to allow you to correct to the new wall and you will also have to take off wall tiles to meet with the new wall and possibly the height of the tiles to the left of the bath and I won't even begin to discuss waterproofing!

Yes- the vanity will also have to be removed as it runs parallel to the bath. 🤦.

This is an expensive mistake.
