How to repair and repaint Queenslander casement window frames?

Seeking guidance on giving these beautiful 100+ year window frames a few more years of life. I had a Queenslander-specialist builder look at them and their recommendation was to replace with new but I think they still have some years in them. Glazing seems relatively secure.

At this stage I'm thinking the steps are:

• Can't see any degraded timber but it's split at a couple of the joins
• Not sure yet about the condition of the putty around the glass - propose to scrape out brittle or cracked material using a putty knife or chisel
• check for condition of glazing points
• Sand back loose paint - rough grit and then smoother
• Patch putty - linsead oil/ prime first?
• Check glazing is secure and put painters tape around edges
• Prime
• Paint with a semi-gloss suitable for windows

Queries in addition to above:

• I think the fixings are brass - I wasn't proposing to remove them to clean - just clean as well as I can as is. So clean those with baking soda and white vinegar paste. Once clean use a clear paste wax.
• Is there anything I can do for the split timber?
• Is there anything specific for replacing/ repairing the putty if needed?
• Any specific tools and products you'd recommend to help with above?

The steps you have mentioned are quite sound. Let me address the most critical part of your rejuvenation project. The split timber is the one step that needs to be done very well. If the split section is still securely anchored, then restoring it could be an option. I recommend using a flathead screwdriver on the surface of the timber to see if has rot. If the screwdriver burrows deep into the timber, it will be necessary to replace it. But if it is only surface damage then it will be possible to repair it.

I recommend using https://www.bunnings.com.au/earl-s-250ml-wood-hardener_p1585306 to re-strengthen the soft sections of the timber. Once the wood hardener has done its job, I suggest using https://www.bunnings.com.au/turbo-500ml-builder-s-bog_p1212026 to fill in the gaps. If the corners of the window casement need further reinforcement, I suggest using https://www.bunnings.com.au/zenith-50mm-zinc-plated-corner-brace-bracket-12-pack_p0044068 .

Please note that it would be best to replace all of the old putty rather than patching it. I recommend using https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-450g-linseed-oil-special-putty_p1210140 in combination with a https://www.bunnings.com.au/uni-pro-38mm-real-good-putty-knife_p1670222 .
