How to repair hole in plasterboard using a wall patch?

I am trying to patch this hole and am planning to use

Pfeiffer 15cm Plaster Repair Wall Patch

I used this twice, and both times, after the filler is dried, I will start the sanding process. But usually before it flushed with the wall, I will start to see the patch's metal plate.

Did I do anything wrong, or is the repair with this type of patch suppose to be have a layer protruding out?

I use a Readers Digest DIY tip for small plaster holes. Manipulate a back patch with glue to the interior wall - with a screw or piece of string. Let dry. Glue another patch in the cavity to the back patch - squeezing it so that it's level with the wall.

Fill the small spaces left with plaster. Much less plaster required and it will be level with wall from the get go.

Hi @limboonlee,

Just to add to the great advice my colleague @EricL has given, when applying your plaster, don't go too narrow. If you have a look in How to Patch a Plaster Wall, you'll notice that the patch is only around 100x100mm, but after being applied, the plaster extends out to somewhere closer to 400x400mm and the patch is not visible.

When done correctly, the centre, directly over the patch, will have a very slight hump compared to the rest of the wall. This is inevitable when patching because the patch itself sits on the face of the plaster. It will never be perfectly flat. If you apply the plaster too narrow, it is impossible to feather out the edges around that hump to blend in the height difference so that you can't see it. If you don't apply enough plaster, when sanding, the patch will invariably show through.

So, my advice is, use more plaster, and go wider than you'd first think.

When sanding the

and you start to see the metal plate, it means that you have sanded too deeply. When putting on the filler plaster make sure you put enough on the surface to create an adequate cover spread evenly. Your goal is to get an even finish on the surface but not overly flat.

I suggest looking at using
