Feedback wanted on CraftRight flap discs

To anyone who have used these product, could they tell me if you would recommend them for, I just brought a 5 inch dewalt angle grinder and was wondering if these are worth using ( I 100% need flap discs but was looking at the diamond blades cause I was planning to do work with masonry in the near future ) I am skeptical if they are good or not cause of the price compared to everything else of the same item just different brand ( I know CraftRight is light diy brand but in my eperience some of their items are exceptionally well made ) Please can anyone else let me know if these are worht getting

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I have personally used the Craftright flap discs, as well as other comparable options like the https://www.bunnings.com.au/full-boar-125mm-40-80-120-grit-zirconia-flap-disc-3-pack_p0216609 . The Craftright discs were good and certainly lived up to expectations, but keep in mind what I was doing was rough sanding of timber to remove paint and some light cleanup of metal. I would not be using them for masonry work.

It is important to remember though, that these are consumable parts, so you can't expect them to last forever, and their longevity will all come down to how you use them. With this being said, in my personal experience, the Craftright flap discs did exactly what I wanted from them and I had absolutely no issues.

With the diamond blades, I haven't used these specific ones, but again, as long as you use them within their boundaries and have reasonable expectations of them, I'm confident they will live up to your expectations.

@JacobZ thank you for you opinion just to be clear the flap discs will be used on timber and metal, the only reason I mentioned masonry work is for the diamond wheels ( becuase I am eventually planning to cut masonry ), I already have the full boar 100 mm flap discs for my 4 inch grinder in which if I need to sand masonry thats what I will be using, I just wanted the flap discs for timber and metal ( Maybe ferrous metals like stainless occusionally ) But nothing like masonry

I have not used those particular disks before. I have used a wider "flap" disk to remove paint that was kind of successful (from a wooden door) The best disk I found was a wire disk for removal of paint from a timber door.

For Craftwright stuff, I have found it stands up ok for when I have used it. Also for tools. If its a rarity I will use the tool I generally have gone for a cheaper option, if its something I use a lot then I am willing to pay for a better model.

I do check out the reviews tho and they can sway me a LOT.

Sorry @Charley3 - I'm new to the 'flap disc' technology and have in the past only used a variable speed 180mm grinder with sanding discs for wood. I did buy a Kango 'flapper' a few weeks back to see what it was all about, but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Craftright - for $7.29 it's a throwaway price Matthew - give it a try.

(What I am starting to stay away from lately is Full Boar - especially their cobalt drills and abrasive cutting discs.)

Just a note to anyone looking to buy/use flap-discs, this is one of them real situations where you need to "let the tool do the work".

Like any fast spinning consumable you might want to put on a grinder or so forth, flap-discs can be VERY unforgiving if you try and force it to "work better", they can turn pretty nasty all of a sudden, I've seen people have them shatter on them.

Believe you me, I was working at a house a year or so ago and a guy managed to have the 3 pieces of the flap disc embedded in the new plasterboard wall, one came out on the other side of the wall, just be aware of this and make sure you wear your PPE!

I'm very familiar both professionally in the powertool and accessory industry and as an end user with these accessories.

The first main difference in higher end to entry level is durability. You will definitely get more than double the life out of any diamond rimmed disc's. But most importantly a far cleaner cut especially with tiles which means less chance if at all with chipping. You can easily go cheaper flap wheels when shaping wood, but go the higher quality for metals as the cheaper wear very quickly with sections flying off as MikeTNZ mentioned.

As @MikeTNZ mentioned, flap discs can be very aggressive regardless of grit in wood. But amazingly efficient in metal work especially welds. You can turn a dodgy weld into a seamless single piece of material effortlessly. @Noyade I highly recommend you give them a crack with your welding projects. Despite using these for years it wasn't until an old engineer mate of mine taught me how to use them on metal was staggered on the performance to say the least. These were Kango branded which its one of the brands under the company I worked for. But other trade brands worked just as well.

@Charley3 I can provide more specific project vs accessory advice with more info on application.

I was a skeptic till I tried it just now. I only use angle grinders with variable speed so I was rather amazed at how quickly the metal was removed on only 'Speed 1' (of 6) plus the finish seems almost polished. So many thanks for that mate! I certainly will be purchasing more of these in the future. Cheers!

That is amazing and well thought out at the same time!

What got me into using flap discs was when I was a stainless fitter in dairy sheds, we used to use flap discs to clean up the discolouration on TIG welds as opposed to using pickling paste which can be quite dangerous, in some situations.

Like sandpaper, these discs come in different "grades" using the wrong one can really scuff your work up if you're not careful, 120 grit is a good start.
