Hi,
I have holman plumbing as per the attached images. The water drains very slowly and I have noticed air bubbles coming up. How do I improve on this drainage?
Thanks,
Waseem
Hello @ahmedwaseem2010
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your sink drain.
Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance.
I propose trying some basic drain cleaning products such as https://www.bunnings.com.au/drain-clean-1l-liquid_p4461129 or https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-1l-complete-clean-power-gel-drain-cleaner_p0443255 in combination with a https://www.bunnings.com.au/kinetic-14cm-large-sink-drain-plunger_p4900035 . My best advice is to give the cleaning products enough time to activate to melt all the items that are blocking the drain. The next step is to fill you sink with water while using the drain plunger. Observe carefully and see if the drain improves. Apply a second time if the drain is still slow.
However, if there is no change and water still drains away slowly, it may be a more serious blockage which will require the services of a plumber. Please note that any changes that involve moving or reconfiguring pipework would be considered regulated plumbing work and would need to be carried out by a licensed plumber.
I also suggest having a look at this guide - Unblock and Clean Drains: The Ultimate Guide from Bunnings.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask.

Thanks Eric, this issue is in a newly built home with 2 sinks and both behave the same. So do you think the correct course of investigation is to try the products you have mentioned or to get air admittance valve. If I have to get air admittance valve installed do I need a plumber or is there an option for me to do it myself as a DIY?
Hi @ahmedwaseem2010,
Unfortunately, any alterations to plumbing systems would need to be carried out by a licenced plumber.
If inadequate venting is contributing to the issue, an air admittance valve could potentially improve the drainage. However, it won't do anything to remove a physical blockage or restriction within the pipework. If the sink previously drained well and has gradually become slower, I'd be more inclined to suspect a partial blockage.
I'd start with the drain-cleaning products Eric mentioned above, following the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
If these don't improve the drainage, I'd recommend contacting a licensed plumber for assistance. They can determine whether you're dealing with a blockage, a venting issue or something else within the drainage system.

When the kitchen sink played up - I was a little surprised to discover when dismantling the plumbing - no blockage. Turns out it was the U-trap outside. A plumber was called. Took a bit of effort - but he got it unblocked.
The vanity then blocked - pulled it apart - turns out my wife (God bless her) combs her hair above the vanity and flushes loose hair down the drain.
(I have no hair).
This is just a fraction of the hair I found…
