Hi,
I'm looking for advice on how to insulate walls with steel frames + brick veneers. I can find videos and tutorials on homes with timber frames but not steel. I've just removed all the plasterboard from the walls, leaving a 60mm gap from the cornice, as I don't want to redo them even though it might give a better finish.
The frames are 75mm thick with 450mm spacing. There is a 30mm air void gap from the frame to the brick walls for the external-facing walls. Do I get polypropylene string/straping to put on the back of the steel frame as a brace, then line the inside of the frame with sarking such as Ametalin VapourTech Brane VHP Vapour Permeable Wall Insulation?
My question to add to this would be how do I attach the strapping and vapour barrier (if they are the correct materials to start with) to the metal frame? Do I use metal tapping screws (as timber frames would just get stapled down)? Then, for the actual insulation, would I just cut the R2 75mm EcoWool Wall Batts to size and slot them in? Once the wall batts are in, just install the new plasterboard?
Last question would be how do I remove all the Plasterboard glue adhesive stuck on the metal frames? Chisel and hammer? Multi tool with scraper? They're stuck on quite well. Just cleaning everything up before I start insulating.
Thanks for the help, hope I gave enough context.
