How to replace silicone around shower?

Hello,

We have inherited a mouldy shower with some interesting silicone work. Could this be replaced DIY using Bunnings products? If so, what would be the best way to scrape off all the silicone and are there any important things we should keep in mind when reapplying it to ensure waterproofness and reduce mould regrowth?

The word generous application comes to mind looking at the current silicone sealer applied. I propose using https://www.bunnings.com.au/trojan-safety-scraper-with-5-blades_p0191108 to remove the silicone from the floor and shower frame. Please remember to use personal protection such as gloves and goggles when using the scraper.

The best way to clean and prepare the area for silicone re-application is to use https://www.bunnings.com.au/glitz-2l-cleaning-vinegar_p4460483 . This will kill surface mould and actively destroy moss down to its roots. It will still be necessary to scrub the surface clean with water and detergent but there will be no need to use harsh chemicals.

In regard to re-application, I suggest looking at this guide - How To Silicone Seal A Bath (the application techniques used are suitable for your project). My best advice is to make sure that the surface is dry and free of moisture. I recommend using https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-300g-white-wet-area-waterproof-silicone-sealant_p1230981 to seal your shower stall.
