Love timber ceiling, wondering if it would work in 1950's house, kitchen &/or rumpus room!?
I've got a 50s house too @Helen. I can't imagine it working unless you have clearly defined zones - the traditional period-era rooms typically at the front and a renovated new zone at the back.
