How to match vinyl wrap laundry cupboard colour?

Hi all. I’m looking at an option to get cupboard doors all same colour. 2 cupboards that are kaboodle and then a wall cupboard that’s is not. They are also different door sizes. Both bought from bunnings.

I’m looking for a solution to change colours has anyone vinyl wrapped their doors? If not is there any other solution than painting them myself

I have certainly seen content online of people vinyl wrapping cabinets and cabinet doors; however, I can't say I have ever done it myself.

@NicoleandShan have vinyl wrapped their cabinets in their recent kitchen facelift project. Perhaps they could share some information about their experiences and offer some guidance.

Painting the cabinets is another option, which is more common from what I have seen on the community. For example, @MsSashaJob achieved a fantastic look by painting her cabinets in her coastal kitchen reno.

For the stress, expense and high percentage fail rate, especially on the edges and corners, I would go with spray painting. This in itself is quite the challenge. Knowing a painter mate who does this type of work, it requires proper preparation, creating a dust and breeze - free environment, a decent spray gun (best to hire) and then the skin to apply an even coating of paint. It's not an easy DIY job. So, I would consider getting a painter to do the job who's experienced in cabinetry make overs.

Alternative, compare that cost to considering in simply replacing the doors.

I had the same issue when I renovated my laundry. One side of my wall had Kaboodle cabinets and doors but I built the other side myself matching the door profile. I did paint them though, which is very easy to do, even for a novice. I had the paint colour matched at Bunnings paint section and it’s impossible to tell the difference.

In case you change your mind about painting, here’s the process for painting them though doors:

Wash the doors using Sugar Soap and a Scotchbrite scourer pad. This will lightly etch into the door surface.
Use Easy Surface Preparation (ESP), wipe over the doors, wait 5 minutes, wipe excess off. You can prime and paint after 90 minutes. ESP gives paint optimal adhesion.
Using a 4mm nap microfibre roller (100mm wide) prime with Zinsser BIN. You can also buy this in a spray can.
Using the same type of roller paint with a water-based enamel in the gloss level to match your existing doors. Semi-gloss is most likely what they are. Two thin coats will do it. Spraying isn’t necessary.

I know you don’t want to paint but it’s certainly the easiest way to get the colour matched.

Id go for painting the cabinets the same, mainly because I havnt had a lot of experience in vinyl wrapping :) Id also check in on a local kitchen cabinet place and see how much it would cost to do all three doors. It dosnt hurt to ask them and might be a lot easier process.

although the vinyl wrap was very time consuming it gave an amazing finish that was scratch and chip resist compared to paint. Also we were ably to get wood grain vinyl. The corners are definitely tricky but watch some utube videos and practice, you’ll nail it in no time! Have a hair dryer handy to really seal it in and smooth out. Having painted in the past I would 100% vinyl wrap again vs paint just for the durability aspect and finished look 👍
