Bathroom reno with patterned tiles and brass accents

New Bathroom

We bought our house in Charters Towers cash and knew we would have to do a lot of renovation. We bought it sight unseen and when we finally got into the house we were shocked at what needed doing.

There was a small sort of bathroom and the toilet was in one of the bedrooms. It was very random in side but most of it needed to be gutted. There wasn't enough room for a bathroom so my husband built an addition onto the back of the house that would become the new bathroom, laundry and toilet.

We were very limited as my husband was using some structural parts of the house and as a result we ended up with an area 1.9m wide and 6.7metres long. It was a huge do it yourself job but my husband built the extension complete with a wetroom bathroom, small but very functional laundry and a largish toilet (with vanity in it). The entire wing of the house is very small but functional.

We did all the work ourselves except the electrical work.

All tools used on this build were bought when we commenced the whole house renovation. We choose all Dewalt tools purchased at Bunnings.

We bought a range of batteries and battery chargers which was a really effective plan

we bought 3 nail / finishing guns which were a godsend. But also the drills, saws, etc. It was great being able to use all the tools with the various batteries. It was so much more effective having all the matching and interchangable batteries.

Steps

Step 1

We first had to do a demolition of the shower which had thick concrete as a floor, then we had to knock the wall out. After this my husband had to build the floor of the extension and commence working on the walls to create a long room which would become the toilet (which had previously been in the bedroom) laundry and bathroom in the one extension.

Step 2

We then had to build the extension - complete the floor and build the walls and then line the room.

Step 3

Once the walls were built and the roof put in the room had to be waterproofed and the three rooms had to be framed up. Toilet, laundry and bathroom.

Once waterproofed it needed to have the floor tiled - same right through the extension. Then the subway tiles in the bathroom. Once the subway tiles were done they needed to be grouted and then we could start furnishing with the vanity and glass wall.

Step 4

Once the glass wall and plumbing was completed - the room was painted and doors added. This is of course a summary of what happened. The first glass wall was tilted too far and burst into a thousand pieces so we had a few tribulations along the way.

What we ended up with was a beautiful small but very functional space.

Thank you - it was a labour of love but only one tiny part of this house reno. I will put the kitchen up tomorrow night - the tiles on the splashback are amazing.
