Hello community members,
I have a situation at hand. Trying to put new wall top assembly in my shower. Bought
Checked forum posts like this: https://www.workshop.bunnings.com.au/t5/Bathroom-and-Laundry/What-to-do-when-tap-spindles-aren-t-lon...
But 2 issues I am facing:
1. The spindle thread is not long enough, so when I fit it in the main pipe, there is nothing left to put the locking nut in. So I am unable to put the part which would be in front of the tiles. I should specify that the water pipe is quite deep inside wall (maybe because of the shower tiles, it went further).
2. Even when I turn the spindle right on the pipes, when I switch on the shower tap, water is leaking from it . See the 2nd image, it's coming from the side of the plumbers tape. One side is good, the other side is leaking.what can I do to stop the leaking.. also when I take it out, I see the rubber round washer staying there and it's little bit to the left and not straight inside the pipe hole. Can I put 2 washers and try? I am thinking of anything to fix it, pardon me if I am completely wrong here.
Hello @sudipto
It appears that you have a deep-seated spindle base and the ceramic spindle that you have is not long enough. If you were to put the original spindle and the ceramic spindle you currently have side-by-side, you'll see that there is a marked difference to their length. A standard ceramic spindle such as the Shaw & Mason Chrome 1/2 Turn Anti Clockwise Ceramic Disc Wall Spindle might be longer, but it would be best to bring your old spindle with you to compare length.
If there are no other ceramic spindles to test, it will be necessary to use a deep-seated standard spindle such as the Shaw & Mason Chrome Deep Seat Basin Spindle or similar. Please remember to compare length with the old spindle to make sure they are compatible. However, if the old spindle is still in good condition, it might be possible to simply just change the jumper valve and re-install the old spindle.
