Re: How to replace metal plate on sliding shower door?

Hi @RenoFun,

That metal piece is likely a proprietary part of the sliding door system, so the best chance of getting an exact replacement would be to contact the manufacturer of the door kit directly and ask if they offer spare parts.

That said, from the photo it looks like the rust is reasonably extensive, but it may not have compromised the structural integrity of the bracket. If it's still solid, you might be able to remove it, clean off the rust with a wire brush or sandpaper, treat the surface with a rust converter, and then finish it with a few coats of spray paint. If it's structurally sound, that should restore its function and freshen up the look as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to replace metal plate on sliding shower door?

Sorry, @RenoFun.

That looks more deteriorated than I thought, given that it's missing that section. I would suggest that it likely doesn't have much life left in it. What purpose does it have on the door, and is it still fulfilling it? If you are not able to obtain one from the manufacturer, you might need to have one custom-made.

ah yes it has deteriorated quite a bit, it’s just used to clip onto the second sliding door to completely close the shower (the shower has 3 small sliding doors that clips on together.

G'day @RenoFun and @MitchellMc

What's the 'black' square - rubber?

Any chance of a drawing with dimensions? Looks like a piece of angle iron with a 'rubber' lip to grab at the second door to prevent it moving futher.

I'm happy to try and make something for you - but tolerances might be tight.

And have a slotted hole for the screw - so adjustments can be made.

Just an afternoon thought on the computer with COVID.  😓

Re: How to replace metal plate on sliding shower door?

Hi @Noyade , Thanks for reaching out... the black square rubber is underneath the small piece of metal (below is the same piece behind from the other slide door.

Hope you recover from covid !! take care !

The depth of the piece of metal looks just 2-3mmcb17d510-6473-40cf-9288-f2a541945c34.jpgb0e2c979-5cf8-4573-9283-563199d311d2.jpg

Thank you !

Re: How to replace metal plate on sliding shower door?

G'day @RenoFun

Yep - getting better thank you.

I didn't appreciate how small this is based on your photos above.

Here's the first prototype.

I went with angle iron - that's what your photo appears to be. I was thinking aluminium but maybe there would be little strength left with the size.

It is 25 mm X 15 mm each side. Outside dimensions - not inner.

3 mm thick.

The rubber is 5 mm. Is there rubber on both sides?

What is the thickness of your aluminium door moulding?

What size hole?

Cheers!

Re: How to replace metal plate on sliding shower door?

oh wow !! thank you the hole size is just a normal screw, i measured the screw length and it was 40mm long so need to get an untrusted one, no rubber on both sides just one and aluminium door moulding: the screw goes in around 2-3cm deep

Re: How to replace metal plate on sliding shower door?

hi @Noyade glad you are feeling better, the last photo i took shows the second sliding door without issues, the first sliding door has a small plate that sits over that “L” shaped rubber which isn’t broken, so just needed a small piece of metal, sorry for the confusion
