Re: should I remove the bath

Hi @Wonderwoman69,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I suppose it depends on how you'd like to use the bathroom and your preferences.

Removing the bathtub would certainly open up a fair bit of space that you could put to use with a larger shower or additional toilet, but you would need to consider the implications in terms of waterproofing, retiling and plumbing needed if the bathtub is removed.

If it is part of a larger bathroom renovation project and you value the space or would prefer a larger shower, I would certainly consider removing the bathtub.

Re: should I remove the bath

Hi @Wonderwoman69 , your bathroom looks exactly as ours did before renovation about 15 years ago. If you have no use for the bath then I'd suggest removing it, replacing the current shower recess with a toilet, which will then be behind the door when it's open. This will give you space to move (replace?) the cabinet to the left. Then you'll have more room to install a shower recess in the far corner.  If the window doesn't have a wonderful view or provides the only source of light, I'd suggest also replacing that with a wider one that's much higher up. Then you won't need curtains for privacy (you get more light) and it won't be in the way of wet area tiling near the shower.

However, what I am suggesting is not a do-it-yourself project due to the major plumbing, and wall changes required. As JacobZ has stated, there will be waterproofing membrane issues if you change any plumbing in any case, so it is unlikely to be diy unless you have all the plumbing and waterproofing skills already.

But it will be a more useful & pleasing bathroom space.

Re: Need advice on changing bathroom layout

Hi @Wonderwoman69,

Let me also extend a very warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community.

Might I suggest you share with us a sketch of the current bathroom complete with dimensions. That way members might be in a better position to suggest possible improvements.

The guide How to plan a bathroom renovation might also be a useful resource to help you to get started.

Thanks,

Jason
