The project

Created this beautiful new room for our son's fifth birthday present. He loves it just as much as I do.

We used laminated panels and dowel legs to create a custom desk in about a week. We had all the timber pre-cut at Bunnings and then nailed and glued it together in a day. It took a few days to varnish it and then assemble the legs. We painted the feature wall on the desk side of the room using Dulux Ocean Trapeze.

The shelves were quick and easy to make. I purchased 2.7m Pine lengths and created three shelves 1200mm, 900mm and 600mm wide. I used wood glue and a nail gun to put them together and attached to the wall with countersunk screws.

One issue we had was that the toy box lid hit the wall because of the hinges we used. We changed it to open to the side instead of the back and used kitchen cupboard hinges instead to strengthen it and create a streamline finish.
