The project

My daughters decided they wanted to share a bedroom. The issue was how to combine two bedroom cupboards into one. The old drawers were falling apart, plus I needed something that would fit in the allocated space.

I built the shelving first, planning on using decorative tubs that I’d found. The tubs turned out to be too small, so instead I built drawers using MDF and then fixed wood to the front so that it all blended in. It fits all their clothes perfectly!

The hardest part was making the drawers. Because Plan A with the decorative tubs didn’t work my decision to make the MDF draws was rushed.

The first couple of drawers I made were a bit odd-shaped. I realised I wasn’t checking my measurements properly and checking that the corners were square.

I was putting too much pressure on myself to finish it, so I left it for a couple of days, did some research and then tried again. This time I triple-checked the measurements and made sure I worked on flat surfaces.

I learned a lot with this project, – especially how to deal better when things don’t work!
