Decorating pantry doors

An easy and inexpensive way to fancy up your doors.

The project

We attached plain skirting to our pantry doors with a fixing gun. You can also use Gorilla Glue. After the skirting was attached, we filled the holes with No More Gaps, sanded and then painted in Vivid White. We also filled where the previous handles used to be so we could change the handles and hinges to a stylish black.

There are no rules, but with wainscoting or panelling people usually put the bigger rectangle on top. We wanted to modernise ours so we used plain square skirting and made up our own design.

Let me mention @sjloves so that they are alerted and hopefully can provide details of the product they used. Something like this 31 x 11mm moulding would be suitable. However, we have a whole range of timber mouldings to select from if you are looking for something a bit fancier.

This looks great @sjloves. Just a question regarding your handles, love the change, when you say filled where the previous handles were, how did you do this? Did you use a filler and then sand it back before painting?

That's an excellent question @birdie, on the condition that the handles were just ordinary dummy handles with no internal mechanical workings, it would have been easy to just fill the holes on the door and sand it down as you described. But if it had large holes in the door, it would have been necessary to cover those large holes first, before applying a filler to it.

Hi @khusnil_deo,

The same principle will apply; you must fill the holes with filler. In your case, you'll have the larger central hole to fill and the smaller screw holes. If you're familiar with using filler, then you might consider using Builder's Bog, a two-part system better suited to filling larger holes. If not, then I'd suggest sticking with a single-part multi-purpose filler.
