A new European-style laundry built from scratch featuring floating shelves and subway tiles.
A laundry build from scratch.
First up was the demolition stage and relocating the electrical and water outlets.
After installing the new walls, waterproofing and tiling, I added the floating shelves. Then I added the new door jams and doors that match the rest of the house.
Finally, I installed the laundry cabinet and brought in the washer and drier. Even though I put in a heat pump drier, I decided to also install an extractor fan.
Here's the finished product:

Hi @roximn,
It appears @Codey might have been the Flexi Storage Decorative Shelving 600 x 38 x 240mm White Gloss Floating Shelves.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Looks awesome!! Hey @Codey and also @MitchellMc - did those floating shelves hold up OK with laundry detergent etc? Can take a bit of weight? and moisture from the dryer?
Also, how did you drill them into the tiles? Do I need a special drill bit?
Cheers,
G'day @Marktay
I am rather artificial and of low intelligence, but when the one stars outnumber the five stars and Bunnings own AI generated review is this - I personally would avoid if you want to store large 4 litre bottles of laundry liquid.
I do have a design that will - but it requires steel fabrication that is 'hidden' somewhat.
Cheers.
Hi @Marktay,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
Unfortunately, only @Codey would be able to answer your questions about the floating shelves, but knowing the quality of his work, I imagine they would be holding strong.
I can't say for certain what he has done, but drilling into tile does require a special drill bit depending on the type of tile. There are a variety of tile bits for different materials. I imagine these tiles are ceramic, so a ceramic tile bit would be the way to go.
Jacob
Mine have been just fine. I drilled them directly into the timber and tiled around them. The wall tiles were just the right size to avoid unnecessary cutting.
Because this laundry in enclosed, I invested in a heat pump dryer. This ensures no condensation builds up. I also installed an extractor fan (in case future occupants don't have a heat pump dryer).
Hope this helps.
