Does Bunnings cut wood to size?

Many Bunnings stores offer a timber cutting service to help you get your wood home and get started on your project.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our timber cutting service to help Bunnings Workshop members.

What type of cuts can be done at a Bunnings store?

Bunnings stores typically have two types of saws for timber cutting.

  • Panel saw – used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces. The machine is capable of both horizontal and vertical cuts on most of our board products. Some examples of products that can be cut using a panel saw include Melamine and Plywood.

What size cuts can be made and how much does it cost?

Cuts to timber and panels boards are rounded up to 100mm increments. We are unable to do precision cuts. The minimum length of cut timber is 600mm.

Customers are required to purchase any remaining offcuts measuring less than 1800mm.

Multiple timber cuts may incur a charge of $1 per cut.

Is this service available at my local Bunnings?

You can check whether the timber cutting service is available at a nearby store by visiting the Bunnings website. Here’s how:

  • Mobile device - Select your nearest store and then click on your store's name on the top left of the screen. This will take you to your store's information page, including details about what services they offer

  • Desktop computer - Type the nearest store's name in the change store drop-down and then click on store details. This will take you to your store's information page, including details on what services they offer.

Can I bring my own piece of timber to be cut?

Due to the many variables associated with timber products, we can only cut products purchased from our stores.

When is the best time to visit a store for timber cutting?

Visiting at a quieter time will ensure faster service. It's best to avoid weekends and public holidays as many other D.I.Y. enthusiasts will also be looking to build their own projects.

What if I want to do the cutting at home?

Knowing what saw to use and how to use it is the key to success. Here are some useful guides to get you started:

What if I can't get my timber home?

We offer a number of options to get your products home safely. You can use our free courtesy trailer for up to two hours. If you need more time you can also hire a trailer, a ute or a van to suit your needs. We also offer a comprehensive delivery service to assist you in getting your purchases home. Most stores offer same day or next day service. Please contact your nearest store for details.

As always, our helpful members are ready to assist with any questions you have on completing precision cuts for your D.I.Y. projects at home.

Please feel free to let me know if you have further questions about our helpful timber cutting service.

Cutting and Installing SpecRite Prempanel timber slat panel

IMG_6205.jpeg

Hello I’m looking at installing a couple of cut pieces of panneling to the side of my kitchen bench. There is wallpaper on the plywood there that I will steam off. Do you think if I purchased the panel my local Bunnings store would cut it for me? I’m in Perth and I’m a bit nervous cutting this one. Any tips on attaching the panels to the side of the bench will be greatly appreciated. Thanks 😊

Re: Cutting and Installing SpecRite Prempanel timber slat panel

Hello @OliveOyl

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about cutting Prempanel panels.

I'm sorry but the shop saws are not capable of doing precision cuts. The saw blades are also too big and would splinter the cut edge of the panel.

To cut Prempanel panels, mark the wood slat side of the panel with a pencil, apply masking tape along the cut line to prevent splintering, and then use a fine-tooth saw or circular saw to make the cut, guiding it slowly.

Therefore, you can either try cutting it yourself with a fine-tooth saw or get a family member who is handy to cut it for you. Another option is to engage the services of a handy person to cut the panel for you. The installation instructions call for a construction adhesive and Selley's Liquid Nails is perfect for this application. My best advice is to do a test fit before applying any adhesive to the panels.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

wooden fireplace

Hi there,

I am looking at making a fireplace for christmas for my little ones to enjoy. I am thinking of making it from mdf and wanting the square sides to look like a box where the corners line. I am wondering if Bunning were able to cut the ends of the mdf on an angle so the boards join flush?

I dont have all the tools available.

Thank you

Corrina

Re: wooden fireplace

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Corrina8. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about timber cutting.

It sounds like you are looking for mitre cuts on the corners, which are a 45-degree cut rather than a perpendicular 90-degree cut. Unfortunately, our saw is only capable of making 90-degree cuts on boards and panels.

If you could draw us a sketch or upload an inspiration image of what you'd like to achieve, our helpful members might be able to offer some advice on how you could go about doing that yourself. Let me know if you need a hand uploading images.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Cut timber board for table top

Hi,

Can any Bunnings store cut this timber board into 1500mm x 800mm for my table top?
https://www.bunnings.com.au/specrite-2400-x-900-x-33mm-timber-multi-use-pine-panel_p0419614

How can I reduce the sharpness of the edges? Maybe sanding paper?

Thank you for your help

Re: Cut timber board for table top

Hello @Tony2025

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us.

I'm sorry they will not be able to cut the panel for you. The shop saws are not designed to make precision cuts; they are often used to cut timber to make transportation easier. It is possible for you to cut the panel with an ordinary handsaw or a circular. If you have a friend who owns one you can ask them to come with you to cut the panel. In regards to reducing the sharpness of the cut section using sandpaper is the way to go. I suggest using 240grit for a smooth finish.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
