hi there i purchased from bunnings special orders 2 x external solid doors 1200mm wide x 2040 high (35mm depth) i need to know what hinges to buy and what type of screws or bolts i should use. Concern customer
before i start, i have 2 x solid doors 1200 wide that weigh about 65kilos each. You recommended certain door hinges which is now connected to the doors. I am about to install thew doors. The post i am using are as follows. Purchased from Bunnings.
88 x 88mm 2.4m H3 LOSP Treated & Primed Laminated FJ Pine Pos.
Are these post strong enough to hold the doors on, I.E. the screws wont come out as the timber is not hard enough?
thankjs
Hi there, i have communicated with you previously and discussed the requirements to install 2 x heavy barn doors, approx 65kilos each. We determined the hinges and screws, and the quantity required to ensure the doors would operate effectively.
One thing i forgot as i was just about to install the doors, was the post. I have 2 posts as below spec.
I am not sure if once the door hinges are screwed into the post, would the post be able to withhold the doors due to the weight. Are this post strong enough to hold the doors on, I.E. the screws won't come out as the timber is not hard enough?
The post i am using are as follows. Purchased from Bunnings.
88 x 88mm 2.4m H3 LOSP Treated & Primed Laminated FJ Pine Pos.
I have purchased the screws at 60mm length.
thanks
Thank you for your prompt response,
Which coach bolts should i use.
I actually purchased "external timber screws" 10 - 8 x 65mm
The hinges used are the heavy duty ones as recommended by your specialist team previously.
Can you please advise if these screws would be sufficient or can you identify which coach bolts to use to attach the door to the post i bought.
thank you
So we are clear, the coach screws will not suit to use to connect door hinges to Post. The coach screws have a head and they will stick out from the hinge this affectimg the door from closing fully.
Hello @Miczam
Yes, coach screws will not work because the size of the head. The 10 - 8 x 65mm should be strong enough to hold the hinges in place. My best advice is to drill pilot holes to prevent snapping the heads off the screws.
In regards to the posts, if they are properly installed and anchored, they should be able to hold the weight of the door
Eric
Hi Eric, thank you for your response.
just for clarification the pine post I will be using should hold the screws and weight of the door. I.E. the post are suitable to carry the weight of the heavy door.
thank you
Hello @Miczam
Yes, the post themselves should be strong enough to hold the weight of the door. Please note that the posts must be anchored properly in order to carry the weight of the door.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
