How to repair sagging carport ceiling?

My carport ceiling is about to come down after slowly sagging for over a year. I can see some loose timber blocks inside it, so it's clearly a shoddy job to begin with. I want to replace the drywall with something else that is lightweight and more durable. I'm thinking some type of slats, but not sure which ones will be appropriate. Also, what kind of truss or other support can be installed inside for proper support?

Ceiling panels often sag when there is water coming down from the roof or when large vermin try to squeeze into tight spaces such as possums. Inadequate fixings can also cause the panel to sag. If there are no water leaks and the panel is still in good condition, I propose re-attaching it to the ceiling frame. In regards to adding extra mounting points, I suggest looking at adding extra noggins into the existing frame. This would be the most convenient way of adding more support to the ceiling frame.

If you are looking for alternatives, I propose looking at the James Hardie 2700 x 1200 x 7.5mm 3.24m² Hardie Groove Lining as a possible replacement. There is also the Ekodeck 219 x 26mm 3.6m Lighthouse Batten Screen Castellated Panel. Both products can be used for ceiling applications.

My best advice would be to use construction adhesive in combination with ceiling panel fixings for a secure fix.

Hi @farhanhubble,

I suggest you stick with that (don't replace) and do whatever repairs are necessary.

It's a tricky task just remove that section so you may need to consider getting someone in like a good handyman.
