Is this an early dynabolt?

Spotted these the other day from an old construction site.

Bolting wood to concrete and brick.

I can just make out 5/8" but there is also a lead sheath around them - one is seen at the bottom of the photo.

The jaws look like something from the Tremors movie.

The house would have been built early post-WWII.

Very early dynabolt?

Hi @Noyade

It appears to be a Loxin anchor, which is a brand name, as Dynabolt is from Ramset. They are both expanding masonry fixings using a slightly different process. The Loxin was advertised in the 1950s; you can check out a Trove article here. I suspect the Dynabolt was developed much later.

I like seeing and reading about older styles of building techniques. Do you think the lead was an attempt to help with expansion in an oversized hole?

Clearly the builders had no trouble removing them with pry bars a month ago.

I suspect that might be the case @Noyade. It is likely a compressible material to shim the space.
