Need a replacement belt and manual for this old ozito drill press. Can anyone help
Hello @jarryd
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about your Ozito drill press.
Allow me to make some inquiries regarding the drive belt and manual for your Ozito OZDP5A. Once I have more information about your product, I'll get back to you.
Thank you for your patience.
Eric
Hi @jarryd
If Eric has no success with Ozito - I have taken old belts to engineering outlets (BSC for example) and they have found a matching replacement.
Or is there no belt at all with the drill press?
Just a mid-morning thought.
Cheers
Hi @jarryd,
I apologise, but as that drill press was last sold in 2010, the drive belt is no longer available as a spare part from Ozito. I did manage to track down the manual for it and have emailed it to you.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Thankyou Noyade,
this will be the next place I go. I tried a few bursons outlets to find a match but without luck.
There is no belt that came with it. But operates well. Some TLC and a new belt and it will be good to use.
I've spoken to the Ozito technical team, and the good news is that the manual for your drill press is still available. I'll email you a copy for you to have a look at.
However, the belt for your drill press is no longer available at Ozito, the good news is that they gave me the model number for the belt which is "K26 Drill Press Belt", but they could not provide me with any other details about it.
Please keep us updated with your progress, we look forward to seeing your drill press up and running.
Good evening @jarryd
Unlikely you're still with us - but I thought I'd ask anyway how you got on with the belt?
I had a very interesting day yesterday trying to replace my generic belts.
Not as easy as I thought.
Hi @Noyade
It would be interesting to find out if @jarryd found an alternative to the belts for the drill press.
Hi @EricL @Noyade @jarryd
Small to medium and some floor model drill presses have been made for decades by countless brands using the same components just with different skins like colours and slight variations to cover shapes. So it's highly likely that many parts including V-belts are interchangeable which could make for a starting point when actual spare part ones can't be sourced. Ozito - Ryobi - Detroit (Total Tools) - Bayer & ITM (Sydney Tools) - Sherwood (Timbercon) - Carbatec are all Chinese copies of each other and many others.
Regards, Nailbag.
Hello @Noyade
Yes I did search around. And got taken from tool shop to auto shop to plumb warehouse. But found the belt I needed at BSC in Beresfield. They had huge range of belts. I took my press in and got it fitted. Hope this helps you and everyone else
EricL
Yeah it took a while but I eventually found a supplier of belts with a good range and had my press fitted.
BSC in Beresfield has a range there.
"But found the belt I needed at BSC in Beresfield."
I'm glad Jarryd @jarryd . Glad you got it sorted.
I was concerned on Monday morning based on my advice to you last year - regards BSC.
On Monday I presented to BSC with a generic Taiwanese belt (seen below) and they refused to serve me based on logic that they had no intention of trying to match an inferior product. I was just hoping you didn't have the same experience.
I've never had this happen before.
I walked out empty handed.
In the end I went to a local engineering shop that had no such qualms and walked away with two Gates belts of very good quality.
They're so good in fact I can now drill plate without a pilot hole with a 16mm drill bit. I could never have done this even when the drill-press was fresh outta the box 12 years ago. They fit better, look stronger and excessive tension no longer required.
I guess it's similar to a cheap drop-saw with a professional blade.
Cheers and thanks for getting back to us.
Happy drilling.
Just an addenda @jarryd
What size, code and brand - belt were you given for the Ozito?
I have a similar sized 1998 Ryobi drill press I want to perform a Lazarus on and give to my eldest son. It too is a 2 pulley, 5 speed little unit.
Cheers.
