6x9 Studio is on the way, electrical work nearly done all power lines laid, Air Con lines in, will start to box it out soon, amd then sheet it, going with ply as there will be alot of pegboard and shelves etc in there when we finish,
getting excited
@TheSaltyreefer Firstly: wowser mate...I wish I had the spare room and your budget for my studio build! LOL! Some equisite woodworking and general handyman work done mate, congrats.My question/query is a little more towards your fiance's intended use of the shed?? My apologies as I do not mean to be nosey! If you wish to keep the finished use personal then by all means say so and my apologies! However...this result came up in a 'Google Search' and that is how I made it here... As I mentioned I am currently engaged in a studio build (musical instrument studio) and after reading your thread I am intrigued as to the end usage...🤔...I figure I have nothing to lose with a quick query anyway.Again; no offence intended by the specificity of the question 🙂Peace
@Former Workshop member
Interesting question and no apology needed for asking, my fiance is a very talented young woman, she has just been flown down to Melbourne for Business, I will disclose alittle information and some pictures very soon 🙂 Right now its moving in time, and getting everything ready 🙂
@Butch
not at all mate 🙂
In relation to what my Fiance does, she is a Self Employed freelance artist, special effects and a few other things. Currently in Melbourne working on a project for a feature film.
@TheSaltyreefer Awesome...what a fascinating hobby/job! After reading 'studio' I will admit that I spotted the the plywood boxing and the R2.5 Earthwool; but due to some comments and construction methods I realised it was not going to be a 'musical studio' (or at least not strictly so as in my case). After that I guess my interest was just piqued!That is definintely one HELLUVA nicely sized and well renovated studio for whatever kind of artistry or special effect oriented work she decides to do or gets invovled with! I also have to add that being part of the way through my build I cannot help but be envious of the superior wood working and genereal handyman skills on show 😂Well...I am a better musician than a general tradie (sheesh I hope so anyway😀).
Good luck as you seem to be finishing up and I'll definitely keep an eye on the finished product!Cheers mate

mate i used to play the guitatr but never did any good, my daughter plays it and 4 other instruments and does it really well, im just used to living heavy stuff lol
more pics to come as we play some more, moving in a few tables today, over the next month, will plumb the water up and get the air con in before summer, 🙂
hope your enjoying your build
Pulling in a couple of large tables we bought recently from Auction, these will be used for some of the larger machines 🙂
I was just wondering what plywood you used please?
My partner and I are about to convert a shed into a temporary house and are unsure what plywood we should use.
The profile name is one of my other Hobbies, used to run 160 aquariums, we have slowed down to the following
5x2x2 Oranda Goldfish tank
4x3x2 Reef Tank
6x3x2 Freshwater Stingray Tank
8x3x15' Moray Eel Tank
@breepbreep
Hi there
ply was 12mm and 7mm
🙂
Sorry @TheSaltyreefer mate...nothing to add/query that is important...I just started laughing when you mentioned that the tables 'were bulletproof' 😂
I've seen/built a heap of sheds in my time on this planet...and honestly not many of them would hold up against me dropping a soft 'shoulder charge' into them 😉
I don't know about bullets; but the good money would be on your shed if I tried to drop a shoulder into that 😂 the shed looks great though mate, definitely coming along nicely 🙂
Also good on your daughter...I remember you mentioned she could hold a tune on five (?) different instruments? Good on her 🙂 she definitely has a fantastic practice area if she can kick mum out!
Peace mate
Hi @breepbreep,
Welcome to Workshop. We're really pleased to have you join us. Are you converting the shed for accommodation while you rebuild or renovate your house? We look forward to reading more about your projects and plans. Feel free to post anytime you need a hand with anything.
Jason
Thanks.
We are moving into the shed on a property to save on rent and buy the property.
I will start a little thread once we start moving along. We are just clearing out the shed at the moment.
Congratulations @breepbreep. What an exciting time for you.
Looking forward to seeing some photos of the property and reading more about your plans.
Thanks again for joining us.
Apologies to @TheSaltyreefer as this is 'off topic'!However that would be quite an interesting read @breepbreep ; look forward to it 🙂
Peace
@Jason I have it on good authority that DIYers don't read Blogs and Posts on Building sites 😉 ...they read
BIM Details, Data and use Real Tools

G'day @BIM_Engineer mate,
I mean no offence at all so please don't take it that way; however I was kind of scratching my head as to why you noted this here? I can't see where @Jason or anyone else prompted that post...?
Anyway I am also very interested in any updates @TheSaltyreefer has on his build as I am getting photos together to document my music studio build...and depending on community interest I can offer my assistance in regards to sound proofing as I have done A LOT of research on the topic and it doesn't seem to have been covered on this forum. HINT: there has been some awesome research done by the Canadians of all people...no joke!
Perhaps it could help some. I cannot use my qualifications and experience to help anyone here due to liability issues; so I figure perhaps I could offer some knowledge that I have gained due to personal circumstance that may be useful to others 🙂
With that said I fully understand that rather than grasp a few simple basics of acoustics so people can adapt that basic knowledge to solve their soundproofing issue; people mostly just want to ask a question and get an answer. That is impossible in this and many other fields; yet remains a ubiquitous expectation 😕
Regardless I will put a 'discussion' down with some photo's and some notes and if there is interest then I can go into more depth. The best thing I will make sure I do is fearlessly expose a number of retailers/contractors that are either providing 'snake oil and magic beans'; or are providing viable solutions but with a price tag that is robbery. Green Glue and Autex respectively may bow.
Cheers
The Captain
its the internet 😉
I will update my Blog on Saturday, some exciting stuff has been happening, all moving along swimmingly, just in the process of hnaging the 2 large mirror doors on a runner, and then I will put up the large pegboard display panels x 3 I bought for a pressie, have the Swann going in soon, and I will probably end up putting a electric winch onto the roof just in case she needs to lift something heavy.Air con will be sorted out in the next couple of months and just weather proofing the access door
Apart from that the Studio is rocking and rolling
Serious case of Workshop envy going on here 😍
Well done mate, serious dedication and great work.
Must be time for an update @TheSaltyreefer! Looking forward to seeing what you've been up to in the studio in recent months.
Hope all is well.
@TheSaltyreefer
Hey mate, How did you prep the Ply for painting? I was thinking i'm going to need to give it a rough sand after patching up.
@breepbreep make sure the smooth face is facing you, a light sand and away you go, we found we needed to do a few light patches with filler over the knots etc, good primer and your top coat
Hi, I absolutely love your shed makeover. I have a 6x9 shed also I would love to makeover for my son to build and store his Lego in and I want to still put the car in the shed. I would like to know if you don’t mind answering how much did this cost you for the electrical, insulation, ply & epoxy? As I have a budget but not sure the cost of any of this. I love the finish of your room and the floor. Also you spoke of air conditioning, as our shed gets very hot all year round what did you install and is it enough for the size of the shed. I am in SA and have no idea about fitting out the walls as I will have to hire someone to help me. Do you or any of the people who may have read about your project have any suggestions about anyone who could help with my project? I hope you are able to answer my questions. Thanks for your post they have inspired me a lot.
Hi @khann06,
Many thanks for joining in the discussion on Workshop. Fantastic to see you have been inspired. Let me tag @TheSaltyreefer so he is alerted to your questions. Hopefully he can get back to you as soon as possible.
Welcome to the community. We're really looking forward to seeing how you can follow @TheSaltyreefer's lead and transform your shed. Perhaps you might like to hit the Start a discussion button and share some "before" photos and document your project progress along the way. I'm sure other members would love to see your work, and be able to offer some support and advice along the way.
What is used here for lining? Is it also the insulation or is that between the living and the colorbond? is the lining screwed through the colorbond from the outside.
@khann06
cant give u an accurate cost my mate is a sparky and most of the products I get at discount etc so I never bother on money
We installed a 7.1kw air con and its freezing after a few minutes and retains the chill for quite awhile
Any Builder, carpenter will be able to assist you,
@evjay
lining is Ply, the insulation is between
everything was boxed, ply attached from the inside
I see someone in Adelaide wants a shed lined on Airtasker is that your project @khann06 ?
