G'day Viewers.
Without having to go to Bunnings, is there a way of finding out the end profile (and dimensions) of the two replacement wood axe handles available in store?
https://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?page=1&q=axe+handle&sort=BoostOrder
This is what I'm after...
Cheers!
Hi @Noyade,
I spoke with some colleagues in store who have informed me that the 800mm Australian Hardwood Replacement Axe Handle is oval shaped and is roughly 58mm tall and tapers from around 11mm at one end to 19mm at the other end, so this probably isn't what you're after.
It sounds like the 800mm Trojan Replacement Axe Handle With Wedge is closer to your shape and dimensions although they've said the top is closer to 20mm than 25mm. I imagine with the wedge installed it would expand closer to the dimensions you are after.
Jacob
Thanks @JacobZ for looking intro this for me.
I'll get to Bunnings this weekend and have a look at the second handle you mentioned.
Cheers!
I went to Bunnings.
But upon entering I was completely blown away by the newly renovated tool shop.
Many items on clearance.
I saw two Ryobi biscuit cutting blades on clearance at half price.
I have an old GMC cutter with a blunt blade and wondered if the Ryobi's would fit.
Purchased them and rushed home. I forgot all about the axe handle.
I'm thrilled though - the blade fits perfectly!
I'll go back tomorrow.
It's nice to hear you had a spot of luck with your biscuit cutter blades @Noyade.
The axe handle will have to wait for another time.
Jacob
Yeah, it's like going to the supermarket for milk, and coming home with a boot load of groceries.
I eventually did get there.
And yes @JacobZ the 25 mm was the full width of the axe opening.
Interestingly, the staff member who helped me said me once these handles are sold - they will not be replaced.
Is this true?
Hi @Noyade
It's good to hear that you got your axe handle sorted out. It's possible that the provider of that handle has stopped producing this product. A new handle is being introduced into the market, or this product has reached the end of its lifecycle in the system and is being phased out. It is difficult to tell what the possible reasons are, but it would probably fall under one of those categories I mentioned.
Eric
Interesting. Thanks @EricL
But in the end I walked out 'handleless'.
I decided to move the head back. It was originally held in place with some sort of Bakelite substance that had failed. No wedge.
I cut it back 60 mm. Reinserted and well and truly wedged with a homemade steel wedge (50 mm X 50 mm) ground to a point with a 9" grinder.
If this fails - I'll re-examine the handle above.
Cheers.
