How to choose a Ryobi pole pruner?

Hey team
I recently bought a Ryobi 18V line trimmer and the garden is starting to look so much better!
I'd like to now tackle things a bit higher up with a pole pruner. It seems like my options are:
- Expand-It 10" pruner attachment (and use my trimmer powerhead?)
- 10" pole pruner tool only (and use my existing battery?)

I noticed both the above are the same price so I have a few questions:
- what are the pros & cons of going expand-it vs tool only?  (seems like the expand it has an extension pole included?)
- are the 2 tools above essentially the same pruner?  (doesn't seem to be any reviews for the expand it, but there are for the 10" so wondering if they're comparable)
- do you have any other advice/recommendations or anything I missed?

Thanks very much! Moh

Re: How to choose a Ryobi pole pruner

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @mothman. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about Ryobi pole pruners.

Could you please link the hedge trimmer you've purchased again, as I'm getting a line trimmer through that link. If that line trimmer is what you've purchased, then the Ryobi Expand-It 10” 254mm Pruner Attachment is compatible with it. Just take the line/hedge trimmer shaft off it and attach the chainsaw shaft. There's also an extension shaft you can use.

The Ryobi 18V ONE+ EZ Reach HP 10” Pole Pruner Attachment - Tool Only is for machines such as the Ryobi 18V ONE+ 40cm EZ REACH™ Pole Hedge Trimmer 2.0Ah Kit R18PHT132.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to choose a Ryobi pole pruner

Hi @mothman

I like option No.2 - with the chainsaw angled at 30 degrees. I think that's really smart and lets the weight cut tall branches from the top, rather than pushing from the side.

And yes - I too am only seeing a line trimmer in your top link rather than a hedge-trimmer.

Cheers.

Re: How to choose a Ryobi pole pruner

OOps sorry! I definitely bought a line trimmer, have edited my post

Ahh ok thanks, so the Ryobi 18V ONE+ EZ Reach HP 10” Pole Pruner Attachment - Tool Only can't be used by itself?

Re: How to choose a Ryobi pole pruner

Ahh interesting I hadn't noticed the angle, thank you!
It does seem like if I went with this option 2, I'd need to also get the extension pole to get the 3m length that option 1 has..
Hmm decisions

Re: How to choose a Ryobi pole pruner

No, sorry, it can't @mothman. It's a head attachment designed to go onto another style of machine. So, not only would you need a Ryobi 18V ONE+ 40cm EZ REACH™ Pole Hedge Trimmer 2.0Ah Kit R18PHT132 for it to go onto, you'd also need the extension pole.
