Hello Team,
I got a decent size backyard, and I would like to plant veggies and fruit plants on the soil (ground) rather than in beds. Would you please advise me the precautions I should take and the fertilizers/nutrients I should use for their healthy growth? I live in Brisbane, QLD.
Hope to get your expert advice.
Thanks,
Balaji.

Hello @balaji27
Thanks for sharing your question about planting fruits and vegetables in the ground. I propose measuring your area and estimate how many plots you can dig up for your garden. Depending on how many vegetables you plan to plant you don't have to overboard. I suggest looking at this guide first - How to choose the right soil for your plants by @Noelle. The type of fruits and vegetables you wish to plant is highly influenced by your location and the current season.
Next is to determine your soils current health - How to determine soil health by @Noelle. This guide will give you a very good idea of what you need to take into consideration in regards to the soil you currently have in your garden. You'll be able to determine if you need to add extra minerals, fertilizer or soil to your current plot.
My best advice is to use Tuscan Path 100 x 3mm x 20m Black Thinline Eco-Edging, not only does it keep all the soil and added nutrients in place, but it also prevents the soil from washing out and spreading away from the plot when watering. It also serves as a primary defence against crawling insects.
