How to stop gardena hose deforming?

Hi All

My Gardena brand 30m hose 12mm every few

months i have to cut off 50mm of its funny shape where it is connected to a trigger via a hose fitting.please see attached photos

Fitting and connector and trigger are Gardena brand

Is this normal ?

I wouldn’t call it “normal,” but it does happen @zillah, especially with hoses that have been in the sun for a while or see repeated pressure changes. What’s happening is that the hose is bulging at the point where it connects to the trigger because of the water pressure and the way the trigger shuts off the flow. If your nozzle has a hard shut-off when you release it, it can create a mini shock wave that pushes against the hose wall at the fitting, causing it to swell.

It sounds like you’re cutting that section off because the hose is deforming enough to affect the connection. If the fitting is still holding and not leaking, it’s mainly cosmetic, though repeated bulging can eventually weaken the hose there. A practical workaround is to partially reduce the water flow with the valve on your hose connector rather than letting the trigger instantly cut off the water. This eases the pressure on that section and may prevent the bulging.

Because it’s a Gardena hose, if it’s still under warranty, it’s worth taking it back with your receipt. The team can assess it and possibly replace it if it’s considered a defect.

A reoccurring aneurysm based on water pressure - prior to the connector?

I'm with @MitchellMc - look for a replacement or refund?

I have never seen that in a hose before.

as @MitchellMc indicated its wouldn't be considered normal, but its not that uncommon.

Looking at the photos the hose and fittings are getting quite a bit of weather/direct sun exposure, which weakens and softens the rubber. Different qualities will have different tolerances for this. This combined with leaving your tap on all the time puts pressure on the weakest point being the end of the hose. Especially if you have good high-pressure mains water.

As long as the connection is good, it's more of a cosmetic concern as the hose quality is high and with its age wouldn't split. But obviously being under warranty you could get it replaced as @MitchellMc mentioned or simply cut off the end and start fresh.
