How to repaint a fridge?

Just bought a second hand fridge. The paint is ‘peeling’ off one entire side of the door, back to the raw metal underneath. What products and preparation do l need to do to repaint this?

Re: Repainting a fridge

Hello @Lou35

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about repainting a fridge.

If the paint has started to peel off, I suggest sanding the surface with a Rocket 400/600 Wet Dry Sanding Sheets - 6 Pack. Start off with the 400 and finish with the 600, Your goal is to produce a level flat finish with all of the peeling paint taken off and prep the entire surface of the refrigerator. In order to avoid an uneven finish, make sure to use a Paint Partner Cork Sanding Block. Once the surface is fully sanded and the surface is ready, wipe the surface off a Selleys Sugar Soap Wall Cleaning Wipes.

I recommend using White Knight Rust Guard 400g Grey SLS Etch Primer Spray Paint. When the primer cures, you can then spray paint it with your preferred top coat colour. For an extra layer of protection, you can spray the top coat with a clear coat. I also suggest having a look at these discussions - How do I paint a white rusty fridge? by @eriswa and How to paint a fridge? by @Salleec

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
