How to thread a steel pipe for a light fitting?

Hi ..I purchased a feature light to install above my dining table but my wife feels that the light feature is too low. The only way to move the light feature higher is to cut the 600mm rod to say 300m …if I cut the rod I will then need to thread the inside of the rod so I can screw it on the part that holds the light bulbs…

could anyone advise me how to thread the inside of the rod once I have cut it or where I can go in Brisbane to get this rod threaded..?

Sounds like a job for a tap and die set.

I'm 'assuming' whatever we do with out tap and die set will not interfere with the electrical side of the fitting - yes?

Any chance of some photos?

Metric.

Alloy metal.

Diameter less than 12mm.

Plenty of inexpensive kits out there. If you don't know the size of the thread, the thread gauge will help by gauging the thread on the male end of the connection.

It's great to see that @Noyade has already provided a response, and I'd agree that you'd need to be very careful in order not to interfere with the electrical wiring. I'd caution against doing any work if the wiring is running through this tube. One burr left on your thread could cut through the insulation on the wiring, causing an electrical hazard. My advice could only follow that of the manufacturer, and I would suggest that they would say that manipulating the length of the product is not recommended.

Have you browsed the rest of the pendant lighting range to ensure there is not one your wife might like that's the correct length?

@Taffy any fitter and turner shop should be able to do it for it you.

Bare in mind and modification to an electrical item should be carried out be a licensed electrician.
