Hi all,
I'd love to apply for this rental but there's no air conditioning.
There's no windows in the living room, only the doors at the end. Are there any suggestions for possible air conditioning in such a place?
Thanks
Hello @niknak5544,
Not looking good... even if you got the go ahead to install a portable aircon wall kit the cooling capacity would not cope with that large area.
I am thinking your only option is to settle on a smaller area/room with a suitable window for installing the aircon window kit.
Cheers
Hi @niknak5544,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
You wouldn't need any approval to use a Portable Air Conditioner like this Arlec 4.68KW 16000BTU White Smart Grid Connect Wi-Fi Portable Air Conditioner, as the air intake usually just sits in the frame of a window and the window is closed to create a seal.
As @AlanM52 has mentioned, the area you are trying to cool might be a bit of an issue, but a larger unit like the one I mentioned above will still certainly help. I had a room that was about 6m x 3m and a similar sized unit still had a good effect.
The one issue you might have is that the cover plates that are used to cover the gaps around the intake hose are usually designed for sliding windows rather than doors, so they aren't usually tall enough for a sliding door. We could certainly work on a way to make this work, though. I recommended some solutions in the discussion How to vent a portable air con?
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
I find photos from phones at times to be very distorted. The perspective is outta whack.
But that could be just me.
What are the room's dimensions @niknak5544 ?
CC: @niknak5544,
I assumed using the sliding door would be too inconvenient but I can offer a solution using dressed pine, flute board, plywood
I will do post when I arrive back home.
Edited to continue post:
This design allows access without the need to move anything.
I used a router to recess the outside frame edge to suit the sliding door.
You can butt glue the timber joints and use corner brace brackets with optional mortice/tenon fit.
You may have to nail on 'adaptor strips' to suit the sliding door recess.
Dressed pine.
Flute board.
Cheers
